Search Engines

A description of three search engines that can help people to contribute to good causes.

Have you ever donated to charity? Have you ever hoped for world peace? Or have you ever thought about your impact on the environment? The fact is that most of you reading this will have answered yes to at least one of those questions. This is because in this day and age we are at our most compassionate despite our financial worries and troubles, we still keep thinking about others. As a person who spends a lot of time on the internet, I am always looking for ways that I can incorporate some form of charity or act of kindness into my daily surf of the web. And as a writer concerned with her readers tohughts, I know that you will have tried to do exactly the same thing. With your thoughts and concerns in mind I have put together a list of the 3 best search engines that will help you to save the world.

Reduce The Watt? With Blackle.

With the search engine Blackle, environmentalists and other a like will have a field day. This unique site reduces the amount of power that oyur PC/laptop uses to conduct a search. By projecting the search results on an all black background, the site reduces the amount of light bulb watts that your computer usesup which  in turn uses less electricity which in turn attributes to saving the planet (phew)! Each search saves many, many watts (this differs depending on your computer sysytem) and at the time of writing this Blackle has saved 1,166,446,064 (and counting) watts.

Save Square Metres Using Forestle.

For those wanting to use a more ‘direct’ approach to cleaning up the environment use Forestle. Using Yahoo!’s environmentally-friendly search engine you can stop some of the extensive damage carried out by the cutting down of trees for building material and paper etc.The way in which Forestle works is that for every search you conduct, Forestle will contribute to the growth of  a 0.1m (squared) area of rainforest and so far have saved 272,511.2 m (squared) of rainforest!

 Feed The Masses With Hoongle.

Strictly speaking Hoongle doesn’t contribute to saving the environment. However, it does contribute to a good cause. I want you to picture this; a group of small bloated cjildren, aged aobut 4 or 5, crying in the corner of a run dwon house confused as to why they haven’t eaten in almost a week. Hoongle is here to pacify those poverty stricken children as for every 1 search that you do the will donate 20 grains of rice to those who need it most.

Even if you don’t normally donate to charity at least consider using sites to do your searches for images of cute cats eating cheeseburgers. Do your bit and search today!
