Search Engines in The Future

Search Engines

Qi Lu, the guy that is the head of the popular Bing search engine working 20 hours a day for Microsoft says the search business is just in the beginning and that in the future only the best search engine will rule.

What is so different about Bing? This is not a general search engine like Yahoo, this is a decision engine. Instead of getting general information, the objective here is to get information to make accurate decisions such as what is the best place to travel or what is the best laptop to buy.

What do you feel when you search Bing? Well, here you will get absolutely do duplicated results like you get on Google even in the first page of the results. You can even access sites that you never seen on Google or Yahoo. It seems Microsoft indexed the web all again from the very beginning. The disadvantage is sometimes you get results not targeted to your language such as Chinese.

Why does this happens? Bing does not collect so much information about you or your Business (if you use Apps) like Google does. Google knows more about you as a person and as a searchers and what your tastes are than the US Government and the NSA does! Google collects everything about you, you can have a taste in the Google Search History. It’s cool to see ALL the searches you made in 2006 for example and how your mind was at that time, because what you search for is what is in your mind, what you will read and what you will “become” in someway.

Can Bing compete with this kind of intelligence? The answer is absolutely no. Unless they start to see what you do, what you are looking for when you search, what your tastes are, you will never get supper accurate results in the future, for now they are good, but in the future search might be automatic like math is today and might be targeted to the situations we are living now in your life.

Imagine a search engine that can see you woke up and will automatically give you the best places to see today based on the weather (searches both the travel directory, and the weather site and matches the results + with your previous searches making a very accurate result for you) and tells you the best place to visit today. Bing is becoming more like this.
