  1. Britney Spears. She was born Dec 2, 1981 and was raised in Kentwood, LA.  She first appeared on national television in 1992 as a contestant on “Star Search” and then went on to star in “The New Mickey Mouse Club” (1993 – 1994).  Next she signed contract with Jime and released her debut album “Baby One More Time” (1999).  It debuted at number one on the Bilboard 200.
  2. Paris Hilton. She was born Feb 17, 1981.  She is mostly famous for just being an American socialite.  She is known for her appearance in a sex tape in 2004, the television series “The simple Life” and several minor film roles.
  3. Angelina Jolie. Born Angelina Jolie Voight on June 4, 1975.  Though she made her screen debut as a child alongside her father Jon Voight in the 1982 “Lookin’ to Get Out”, Jolie’s acting career began in earnest a decade later with the low-budget productions “Cyborg 2 (1993).  Her first leading role in a major film was in “Hackers” (1995).   She achieved wider fame after her portrayal of video game heroin “Lara Croft” in “Lara Croft:  Tomb Raider” (2001), and since then has established herself as one of the best-known actresses in Hollywood.
  4. Lindsay Lohan. She was born July 2, 1986.  Lindsay is an American actress, model and pop singer.  She stared as a child fashion model for magizine advertisement and television commercials.  It was at age 10 that she began her acting career in the soap opera “Another World.”  She made her motion picture debut by playing identical twins in Disney’s 1998 remake of “The Parent Trap” when she was only 11.  In 2004 she launched her career in pop music yielding the albums “Speak” (2004) and “A Little More Personal (Raw)” (2005).
  5. Victoria Beckham. Victoria was born 17 April 1974 and is best known as Posh Spice a nickname first coined by a British pop music magazine.  Since the Spice Girls separated, Beckham has dabbled in pop music, scoring four UK top 10 singles as a solo artist.  Her first single to be released, “Out of Your Mind”, reached number two in the UK Singles Chart and is her highest entry to date.
  6. Christina Aguilera. Born Christina Maria Aguilera on Dec 18, 1980.   She first appeared on national television in 1990 as a contestant on “Star Search” and went on to star in disney Channel’s series “The New Mickey Mouse Club” (1993 – 1994).  Aguilera signed to RCA Records after recording “Reflection” for the film “Mulan.  Her debut album “Christina Aguilera” (1999) was a commercial success spawning three number one hits.
  7. Jenifer Aniston. Born Feb 11, 1969.  She became famous in the 1990’s role as Rachel Green in the sitcom “Friends.”  This role has won her and Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award.  She has starred mostly in comedies such as “Bruce Almighty,” “Office Space” and the romantic comedy “Along Came Polly.”  She has also appeared in other genres, such as the comedy-horror “Leprechaun” and the crime thriller “Derailed.”
  8. Madonna. Born Madonna Louise Ciccone on Aug 16, 1958 in Bay City, MI and raised in Rochester Hills, MI.  She moved to New York City in 1977 for a career in modern dance.  After performing as a member of the pop musical groups “Breakfast Club” and “Emmy,” she released her debut album, “Madonna” in 1983 by Sire Records. 
  9. Beyonce Knowles. She was born Sept 4, 1981 in Houston, TX.  She was first exposed to singing and dancing competitions as a child.  She rose to fame in the late 90’s as the lead singer of “Destiny’s Child.”  She has sold more than 50 million records worldwide with the group and over 75 million in her total career.  She released her debut album “Dangerously in Love” (2003), which became on of the most successful albums of that year and signaled her viability as a solo artist.  This album earned her five Grammy Awards in 2004.  She has the most cumulative weeks at number one (37 weeks) this decade.
  10. Liv Tyler. Born July 1, 1977.  She is the daughter of “Aerosmith’s” lead singer, Steven Tyler.  She began a career in modeling at the age of 14, but after less than a year she decided to focus on acting.  She made her film debut in 1994 film “Silent Fall.”  She later achieved critical recognition in the leading role “Stealing Beauty” (1996).  She achieved international recognition as a result of her portrayal of elf princess Arwen Undomiel in “The Lord of the Rings” films.

    What does “being famous” mean today? What are the attributes, achievements, qualites, etc a person has to deserve the “celebrity badge”? According to place 1 and 2 on this list…well…i rest my case
