Search Engines

Beginners guide on how to increase your search engine’s search relevance.

Heres my personal favorite tips on how to increase your search engine’s search relevance.

  • Single-inverterted commas around a phrase requests for an exact match, as for ‘Pink Vases’, you aren’t looking for other pink objects, nor vases in other colors. This widely narrows down to the most accurate results.
  • Uppercase requests from results in uppcase, unless if you want to request uppercased results, I advice to stick with lowercase.
  • Attach a plus sign (+) between a word if you want it to be found in your search (e.g. red+spiders)
  • Like the above tip, attach a minus sign (-) between a word if you want it to be excluded from your search (e.g. red-spiders)
  • An asterisk (*) is my personal favorite. It acts as an wildcard or a variation. (E.g. Geolo* brings up Geologist, Geology, Geological etc.)
  • If you’re an frequent surfer and can’t bear with the excessive results proving you no use, try the ‘Advanced Search’ option to narrow down your search.
  • Try the ‘Web Options’ avaible on Google if you’re looking for something in particular.
