How Does Search Engine Optimization Work?

Search Engines

The ultimate goal of SEO is to have your website appear in the top 3 results when a user searches specific keywords via a search engine.

SEO considers how search engines work and how people use them. Website owners either develop their site with search engine guidelines in mind or fulfill a checklist of search engine guidelines on a website that is already created. International Markets have a few more guidelines, and beware if it is even appropriate to have an SEO strategy for your website.

Search Engine Optimization (SE0) is a process applied to a website to naturally increase the quality and number of visitors to a website by gaining high rankings on search engines’ results. Effective search engine optimization involves analyzing and fulfilling hundreds of different search engine specific guidelines, a lot of which are not public.  Optimizing a website typically involves adhering to search engine website guidelines by editing both content and source code to increase both keyword relevance and indexing activities of search engines.

In addition, international markets such as China require standard SEO with additional requirements. You should consider ensuring your site is hosted with a local Chinese IP; as well you need a domain name with a top level domain in the Chinese market.  Last but not least, you need to ensure your content has been professionally translated.

Depending on the website owners’ goals, other Internet marketing strategies can be more effective. A successful SEO campaign will increase organic traffic to a site, but increasing search engine referrals does not guarantee more sales. Never rely on SEO for all your traffic. Search engines are not paid for this traffic. There are no guarantees that you will continue to receive this traffic and businesses heavily reliant upon search engine referrals suffer major losses if this traffic stops. The algorithm used to send the traffic changes frequently and so will your traffic from search engines. SEO should be just part of your Internet marketing campaign. Paid advertising on search engines and other sites as well as other media is wise.

There are many factors that help you achieve your goals when it comes to your website. SEO involves editing both content and source code increasing both keyword relevance and indexing activities of search engines, but you should never rely only on SEO for your websites Internet marketing campaign. SEO can help bring natural traffic to your site but if your site’s conversion rate is low then you won’t see your bottom line grow. Use SEO to complement your website goals.

    Hi Blueage,

Indeed use SEO and Search Engines but be aware that it can change which WILL mean more work as usual.

Your conversion rate is… if you sell something, a product, you want them to join something, you want them to give you their email address or something… the rate of success is your conversion rate.. so if 5 of every 100 surfers that visit your site sign up to your newsletter or whatever then your conversion rate is 5%

Doing what you are doing right now IS promoting your articles.. Write clever articles… Read about writing articles and linking one article to another or creating pages that link your articles that have a same theme.
