Search Engines

There are many surprising features within the Google website. From language translation to weather forecasting, this site offers it all.

Google isn’t just a search engine and advertising server. There are lots of hidden things within the site that are not widely advertised. You need to know they are there.

One of the most useful is Google Notebook which allows you to copy and paste anything from a website that interests you. As you surf you can quickly make notes. Simply go here and download the notebook file. Once it is installed an icon will appear in the tray at the bottom of your browser. This gives quick access and you can open your notebook files from any other computer if you need to, because the files are kept on Google servers and not on your PC.

This is an excellent tool for anyone who is collecting information for projects, doing research, or even doing homework. All the information you have collected will be in one place, ready for you to evaluate and put in order. This is particularly useful for writers who may want to keep details of references and copyright information for articles and pictures on the internet, so that they can be used later..

There are also many secret and hidden features within Google that are less well known than Notebook and Google Earth. Go here and you will find a list of extras which are available through the site. Some are gadgets that you can add on and others run directly through Google itself.

You can access a calculator, metric conversion tool, dictionary and a world clock. There is also a weather forecaster, stock quote provider and a synonym searcher. A spell checker and local search engines are available from the main page. You don’t have to download anything in order to use these. There are a multitude of other resources incorporated within the structure and once you are on the features site you will be able to access them all.

Google also offers language translation tools for twenty four languages including Chinese, Hindi and Russian, Croat, Korean and Arabic. You can use it to translate words, phrases, complete texts and even web pages.

Scholar is Google’s search engine for research papers. You can find the latest academic papers and theses on a multitude of topics. Whether it is health issues, astro-physics , or biology, it’s all there.

If you have a few hours to spare take a tour of Google and find out what amazing features it has to offer. This is truly a fabulous resource which is available to everyone free of charge. Certainly worth investigating.
