Today this method of searching for documents is hopelessly outdated, since even the most modern directories containing huge amount of resources that provide information only on a very small part of the Global Network.

If we talk about full-fledged search engine, the first project was WebCrawler, which appeared in 1994. A year later, there were search engines Lycos and AltaVista.
