Google: The Next Global Superpower

Search Engines

On Google’s world dominance.

Google’s motto is to do no evil, and so far we are to believe this. However in recent years anyone who uses the internet at all, from kids to grandparents have heard of the super search engine. This is particularly noticeable with the recent social phenomenon in using Google as a verb, meaning to search the internet.

However, I have noticed recently, in as little as a half hour spent online, google.com or the affiliate sites from it were very prominent. I used Gmail, Google maps, and search the net with google.com. Google now has dropped the BETA tag on its web browser, Google Chrome. Now bug free and ready to tackle the web browser market. With offline apps also such as Google Desktop and an online office app, I wonder if Google is slowly taking over the internet, or is it already there.

YouTube, EBay and Blogger.com and other sites are all owned by this net giant. Google is a supporter of net neutrality and does a great job at all of its apps.

Don’t get me wrong I do like having a universal login for a number of sites, and I use their search functions and Gmail as well as many more Google apps and sites daily, and love them. I just wonder if Google own everything, and slowly take over net control. Recent polls show more Google searches than Yahoo.com. Is there a force out there that can compete with Google, if only to keep Google on its toes and making their apps better?

Are we soon to boot up our PC/MAC and log onto Google, instead of the internet? Google is an ever expanding force, and so far it’s a great force for the internet, lets hope it stays that way! I love Google, and I ask people to question how the net would be today with out the force that is Google, but how far can this company stretch their sights, before they go too far? Or is their too far for them to go?

This article is actually frightenly probable, I mean we’ve become completely dependent on the Internet and Google is far and away the most often used search engine worldwide, so when you think about it, Google are technically filtering virtually every piece of information we get our hands on via the web…if this was a nation, state or political power doing the same thing there would be uproar re: censorship and the right to information, but because Google is a commercial entity we presume it must be acting in the interest of the consumers???!!!

but there is censorship too, not here, but in China, the Chinese government censors the net, and Google has its part to play to.. Scary eh?
