Google Adsense: Worth It or Not?

Google Adsense, is it worth your time and effort?

Recently, Triond introduced Adsense/Triond integration. Well, this seems to be great news for all of us to have both revenue generated from Triond and Adsense. I did apply for an Adsense account but was disapproved two times. So, I see no point wasting my time here. Also, I don’t quite bother if they disapproved me.

I must admit that I’m a big fan of Google. I use many Google-related products, including gmail. One thing I dislike about Google is one of their products called Google Adsense. Below are reasons why I don’t prefer to use Google Adsense:

Google Adsense business model is not ideal for everyone. Not everyone can successfully gain massive valid clicks at a time. Further, they’ve been placing too much weight on authoritative domains, which is eventually squeezing out small scale publishers. Unless you receive up to 10,000 visits a day, I see there’s no point to earn a constant monthly income from Adsense. In short, smaller publishers don’t benefit much from Adsense program.

Today, we’ve seen that Google ads stand out of many ads as the most noticeable revenue generated program. Thus, many publishers rush to sign up for Adsense, but disappointingly, many applications have been turned down cruelty. There is even no negotiation between the publishers and Adsense group, and they even didn’t bother to respond. This is a bad service provided by Adsense group.

Nowadays, people who read articles don’t even bother to click on ads and banners unless they really need to find out more info on certain matters. Furthermore, google ads are always in common format and not attractive enough to attract people to click on them. The ads need to be something unique to grab readers’ attention to click on.

What if people become more receptive to identify those ads? Imagine the kind of ads displayed “get 400 dollars in just a day!” I’ll tell you as a consumer I’ll never click on such ads, it seems to be ridiculous! Let me ask you, how many valid clicks do you have in a day?

Most of the people have Adsense on their brains to make more free money online. Nevertheless, Adsense is not the best way to earn money online, there are still lots of potential ways to earn money. Adsense has been seen not performing well for many sites too, regardless of how many traffic is coming in a day. It’s certainly not worth the effort to enroll in this program. Don’t get me wrong here. If you’re doing well with Adsense, just go ahead and I congratulate you. But, if you haven’t enrolled for this program, I ask you to reconsider before making your final decision. Well, you may follow your heart! I’m not discouraging you to enroll in the Adsense program. It’s up to you to make a decision.

As the saying goes, “make hay while the sun shines”. Some may say that they made 4 figures with Adsense per month, but how many of them? Very few of them, right? The statistic showed that less than 20 percent are really making money with Adsense. In a long run, I can see Adsense as a horrible business model. You can’t just rely on one business model to earn free money online. It’s indeed not worth your time and effort.

The other thing I don’t like about Adsense is their philosophical attitude. The idea of getting easy money via other’s people click or without hard work is basically not a good attitude. I’m not a philosopher but I think most people think Adsense is a “goldmine” and hence are chasing it to involve into this “get rich quick scheme”. It’s always considered as “poor man’s venture capital”. It’s a myth instead! It’s not an easy way to get rich with Adsense. You’ve heard most stories from the most successful people. They don’t get rich fast but the folks are proceeding with their struggle to reach wealth gradually.

With Adsense, your sole customer is Google and in this case, you have no other customers because you keep relying on Google. If they decide not to serve you Adsense (for certain unavoidable or unexplainable reasons) you won’t get paid even if you’ve reached $100. If they want to increase their fees, you can’t do much on this matter, just because they’re your sole source of income.

You may have heard that Adsense disabled accounts for those who were suspected for click fraud. You won’t know who clicked on your ads. If someone played click fraud on your site, Google will immediately close you down without even listening to your explanation at the first hand. That means your Adsense account can be closed down for whatever reason they gave you. Once your account is disabled, you’re blacklisted and won’t be allowed to reinstall or reapply. It’s like a lifetime punishment! It’s certainly unfair to those whose Adsense ads were clicked by massive users at a time. I mean this is terrible! So, I think it’ll be better for you not putting all your eggs in one basket!

The payout, $100, is too high to reach in a short term. Even you’ve 1,000 visitors in a day; it won’t guarantee you to get 1 click out of 100 visitors. If your luck is bad, you won’t get a click even you’ve 1,000 page views in a day. For smaller publishers, it usually takes a year up to 2 years to reach $100.

To Adsense or not Adsense, it really depends on you!

Big sites like Digg make big bucks with adsense but your probaby right you need big traffic to make money there.

    Chan,
Very insiteful my friend. As I am typing this, I am getting popup ads so I assume that at least triond is making money from the ads.

  4. Christine Ramsay Says:

Thanks for all the information. My son seems to make a fair bit from Adsense, but I won’t be able to. Still every little bit counts, and as long as you are not relying on the income it should be okay.

Some people I know make tidy sums with Google AdSense (well, not six figure sums).

Wise words to consider. Great article!

Thank you so much for the heads up, Chan. I haven’t signed up for AdSense yet, but I have heard things about it.

  11. Judy Sheldon Says:

Chan, you are so right. It is a real concern. I have spent hours (literally) on my three blogs for over a year and have not made pay out yet. I could get very close to pay out and Google could close me down without pay stating someone went click happy and how would I prove they didn’t? Most of us write out of love for writing, but face it, in these tough economic times if we can get paid for what we love, would not that be a God send? There’s never enough money to pay the bills and to have someone take earned income from us is infuriating.

I was happy to read your intelligent overview of this account.TX friend,

Nice post, Chan. I had formerly signed up with Adsense because of my posts on Hubpages and my not blog. Now I have linked it to my Triond account too. Still, I have not reached the minimum payout.

That’s a lot of sense my friend. We could always rely on common sense at the brink of our lives. As the bible says, the richer gets richer and sad thing is they do it at the expense of us poor.

  15. Uma Shankari Says:

My experience is at a total variance with all of you, and I’m afraid it sounds too good to be true. My Google adsense is doing well and even better than my account with Triond!! The fear of being accused of click fraud is real: just as real as the frightening thought you won’t be able to defend yourself. I have that fear too, yet I’m going to continue with Triond’s adsense.

  16. Sharif Ishnin Says:

Like Uma, my adsense is actually making more than Triond at this moment. It’s best if you have a personal website with adsense where you don’t need to share with the publisher. At least for me it’s a positive one. Nice article:)

  17. Jamie Myles Says:

Good article Chan. I recently started adsence with my blog and it’s doing ok so I signed up with triond “s adsence program. we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the heads up.

  18. PR Mace Says:

Thank you, Chan for your hard work and research. I have been wondering about this and you answered my questions.

  19. Eunice Tan Says:

I think it is the article that Triond community should read. Informative and important.

  20. thestickman Says:

I was one of the first Triond writers invited to try AdSense, and I did sign up. I already have an AdSense account and use it on about a half-dozen web sites of mine, even though I only get maybe 50-60 clicks per day. The integration of Triond and AdSense was FLAWLESS; it took maybe 60-seconds and it was up and running! I mean, WOW! NOTHING associated with Triond ever works this fast!!

Well, every day I was getting between 400-600 ‘page impressions’ on AdSense from my Triond work, and numerous clicks and some earnings were adding up… but even though the daily ‘hits’ were often more an any previous entire MONTH, it would still take me maybe a year, -a YEAR, -to reach minimum payout. That is a fault of AdSense; the unattainably high payout minimum. I know people that have blogs with AdSense and yes, actually REACHED this $100.00 and got paid. I also know of dozens of others whom either never reach this level, or nearly reach it (usually around $90.-something dollars) and they get ‘banned’ from AdSense because of some nebulous ‘fraudulent clicks were recorded’ and there is no redress of their petition. -They are given the option to explain their case, -but NOBODY that I know whom has done this has ever won their case! Nobody!

So, today I shut-down my AdSense on Triond. I declined it from the AdSense account option, and ‘turned off’ the Google ads on Triond, which you’ll need to do in order to ‘free up’ the space for the usual Yahoo! ads to return.

Unless you are getting as you said, thousands of visitors per day and/or are closer than I am to actually reaching the AdSense payout rate of $100.00 minimum, it may be best to avoid AdSense. It may not be worth it to the average Triond writer.

I will admit though it is heartbreaking now to look at my AdSense traffic and no longer see the 600, 700 or even 800 ‘page impressions’ that I was seeming this last week…
I just don’t feel that the risk is warranted for me at this time. I’m out of AdSense integration with Triond.

Great write-up Chan, peeps need to think about this one.

P.S., -I know it sux for the writers that maybe want this and have not seen nor been offered it. Everyone wants to be ‘included’ or at least, invited. It is an opinion-thing, everyone wants to be given the choice to express an opinion even if it is one of “this is not for me.”
I would have been pissed to have been omitted but now that I don’t want AdSense, -they can just keep it. Its not right for me.

I would have read the article but a giant “FULL SOUND” add jump on the screen… I won’t be back. thanks.

  26. Guy Hogan Says:

I was banned by Adsense before I joined Triond so I don’t have to worry about it.

  27. Noodleman Says:

Lol I have a thing against Google, and Microsoft…

  28. papaleng Says:

well presented point of view. you have enlighten many mind. Thanks for sharing Chan.

  29. Paul2KAD Says:

I’ve been using Adsense for years and yes I have received payouts from them. Being able to increase the rate of income by integrating Triond sounds like an excellent idea. Reading around I see a big mix of opinions though. Some people love it others seem to have had serious problems. So I’m not sure what to think of it, but I’m keen to try it out when I’m finally offered the option.

  30. Mysfit Says:

I liked your attitude when you wrote this..”I did apply for an Adsense account but was disapproved two times. So, I see no point wasting my time here. Also, I don’t quite bother if they disapproved me” . It’s so cool attitude.

Anyway, I haven’t earn from ad-sense too. I don’t know if it’s legitimate or not. And, yes I quite agree that there ads are sometimes annoying and not really attractive. Sometimes, it contains virus that could harm your computer once you click it.

  31. Friendly.Gummy.Bear Says:

    I see your point.

Adsense creates huge traffic potential for Triond writers. Problem is, you need a lot of traffic and wait a lot longer for your payout.

  32. Mr Ghaz Says:

WOW..this is great infos Chan..You’ve answered my question..lol..Thanks for sharing this super hot topic..I totally agree with you chan..presently, I think that, Google Adsense is definitely not suitable for me..maybe next year..just wait and see. :)

  33. clay hurtubise Says:

Good piece. I tried it, just isn’t for me.
    Thanks,

  36. CutestPrincess Says:

i tried the Adsense/Triond integration but i didnt like it, so i remved the adsense right away!

  37. Mike Says:

This is not true! I make well over the $100 every month and only get about 3,000-4,000 visits a month. You need to do some research if you are going to use google as income.

  38. Ashley Ann Says:

I singed up for Adsense through Blogger.. I was declined twice b/c my blog wasn’t established enough… but third time was a charm and I was accepted… I must say I do enjoy looking at that extra money amount when I log into my account at Triond…Although I myself am a bit away from the $100 pay out I’ve only had the adsense account for about two weeks now.

Chan I don’t see how you would be denied an account your blogs are great! And I know you must get a ton of views per day.. I know I read atleast one article of yours a day!!
