Follow these basic SEO steps and you will see more visitors to your site from search engines.
SEO can be mystically mysterious and out of reach to website owners for several reasons. Website owners usually always want more customers or more people to visit their websites for one reason or the other. When you want to bake bread and you don’t know how to back bread you get a recipe. Then you read the recipe, obtain the ingredients, prepare your utensils and cooking area as well as the oven. Then you follow the directions. With bread, for the most part, you need to follow the directions chronologically, that is, step by step, finishing one step before you start the next. Sometimes you can start a different step and complete it and not affect the outcome and other times you have to start a different step and complete it or the outcome will be bad bread. You can look at SEO as following directions from a recipe. With SEO, you do not have to finish one step before you begin another. In fact, you can begin a step and not finish it and begin another or do three or four steps at the same time for the most part. There are things you should do, things you should not do and things you should know to accomplish rudimentary success in your SEO pursuits. Rudimentary success means more people buying your product or service or more visitors to your site.
The Do’s that you must follow if you want your site to appear in Google are including your primary keywords in the title of your webpage. Changing your title for every page but using the one or two most important keywords you have decided upon for keywords for your site. Use these same primary keywords along with you other keywords in the first two or three paragraphs of each page you have. Try to get your keyword density around 4 to 8 %. Try to be able to access all your content with only two or at most 3 clicks from when you are on the home page. Name or rename your web pages to more descriptive names. Instead of /SEO/page_4.php, use /SEO/creating-backlinks.php. Try to find relevant websites to become linking partners and created rich, cleverly-written, links to each other using these same keywords. Try to get links to your site from government, school or university websites. Continue to find directories or search engines to submit your website to. Write articles and post them on article repositories and include links back to your site in your tagline and, if possible, in the content. For a few minutes each day search your primary search engine on your keywords and look at who is showing up in the top 3 slots and see what they are doing with their keywords and meta-tags.
The don’ts of SEO include do not pursue back links from sites that do not have relevant content to your site. Never listen to an SEO company promise you top ranking in Google or other search engines. Do not use automatic traffic sites to increase your traffic. Search Engines top listings are for sites that have natural traffic. Do not use keywords that trigger spam filters such as act now, free offer or order now among others. Search Google for word combinations that trigger spam filters. Don’t automatically submit your sites to search engines. Most of the time they don’t work and knowing what is or is not done might be better for your task scheduling.
Things you should know are that it takes a lot of time to be in the top of search engine result page listings. Not forever, but just because you fulfill one requirement you won’t be on top of listings the next day. There are many factors which include how often your site is crawled in the first place to the rate at which content and back links are or were created. Who is linking to you and how they are linking to you, how long they have been linking to you and their status are all factors that are considered when Google creates your sites Page Rank as well as when it decides whom it is going to show in result pages when certain keywords are searched.
Follow the directions and if there is a term or something you do not understand then search it in a search engine and read a few articles until you get a general idea of the subject. Follow the do’s of SEO. Sometimes it’s boring or difficult, but complete what is needed to fulfill the basic criteria of what search engines look for when displaying results. Just as important, make sure you are not doing something that is frowned upon. Finally, start educating yourself about SEO. There are plenty of great websites out there that will turn you into a professional in just a matter of months with a little time and effort. If you treat your website’s SEO like you do a recipe you should see moderate increases in many different areas of your website’s success.
