Triond: You Can be Successful

Tue, Jan 20, 2009, by RJ Chamberlain

Money Making

I began my Internet writing career on Triond and my intentions were not to make money, but rather to try and expose some of my talents. It was also a starting point to give the joy of seeing my hard work published.

At the same time I kicked off my blog, my first post outlining my intentions and goals as a writer. I felt I could have enjoyment and eventually earn a living from it.

Since starting at Triond all those months ago, I have published upwards of 55 articles and counting, 6 of those making the “hot content” and two earning over 10,000 views.

Because of this I am proud to say that my writing career has taken the next step and I have secured a job with New Zealand’s oldest newspaper, The Otago Daily Times, covering my regions sporting matches and events. Although it is only part time and the pay is minimal (it is significantly more than writing on the net per week), it is a wonderful feeling to finally see my name in print.

I put this down to sticking with Triond, honing my skills as a writer, and the online friends I have made on this website. These people have given me guidance, encouragement, and wonderful tips to be successful, and ultimately it has worked. I write for a newspaper and “have my foot in the door” for more prestigious tasks and titles in the future. So thank you Triond and friends. As I have said before in numerous “comments” I appreciate it.

To view a couple of my articles featured in The Otago Daily Times, click on my blog link and scroll down. You will find one or two. You can also find the wonderful Triond writers who have helped me the most at the right of the page.

If you are having second thoughts about publishing at Triond, decide what you are there for in the first place, then decide if it is worth it for you because it was worth it for me. I won’t lie, it is frustrating and a lot of hard work, but stick with it and you will be successful. Thanks again Triond friends.

Great news, RJ. I’ve also had writing jobs which I felt were based on the fact that I have a platform (Triond) from where I can showcase the pieces I’ve already done.

If I may, let me add that many writers on Triond, especially the new ones starting out now, can benefit tremendously from honest/constructive critique on their work, if they just show that they’re willing to grow as writers by accepting and working on those suggestions for improvement.

On quite a number of ocassions, I suggested grammatical or sentence structure changes in articles, and I’ve received nasty messages (from newer members – not the older ones) as my thanks. I’ve stopped doing this now, but writers only grow if we are all willing to improve our art, by learning from our mistakes.

Thank you for a very uplifting article.

I have had the same blessing, albeit in much smaller form! The publishe of our small town paper saw my first article, Stress-Free Valentine’s Day, and hired me to cover sports and specials at the High School. I have never written professionally. What a boon to now have a job doing it – part time, but since I had lost my former job it was just in time.

    Thanks for the article!
