Money Making

Every time eBay changes it’s TOS, it screws sellers even more. Now, sellers can no longer offer optional insurance.

Dear Ebay,

Each time you make a chance to your terms of service, you deal a greater blow to your customer base. I’m talking about no longer allowing sellers to offer optional insurance. You can’t possibly expect us sellers not to offer insurance as it is right now the only protection we sellers have against items lost in the mail. I refuse to be responsible for items lost in transit as it is not directly my fault. Do not blame the actions of the USPS on Sellers.

You say we can add the cost of insurance to the shipping and handling. I sell video game. You’ve already capped the amount I am allowed to ship for video games, to below what the actual cost of shipping is. Which means I have to dig further into my profits to pay for shipping and insurance.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you want us to put the cost of insurance and excess cost of shipping into the auction price. When the item sells, you get a bigger cut. Why do you continue to cut into the profits of the sellers? Soon it won’t be worth selling on Ebay any more and I’ll jump ship to Amazon or Google checkout.

I used to run a business on ebay but after the feedback changes etc I left, on principle. I was once left nineteen negative feedbacks, after keeping my account 100% positive, and the person hadn’t even paid me. Ebay refused to remove the feedback and it was up to me to prove the person didn’t even exist (I checked the address given for postage and found it was false) before they would help me.
I’m on Etsy now. It’s only for selling hand-made goods and supplies, but if you sell either of these it’s far cheaper and without the unfair and controlling ebay attitude. A refreshing change!
