1. Choosing the right domain name on the right platform : Domain name is a crucial factor. It doesn’t matter if you give your own name or your pet’s for your blog (e.g. Johnchow.com). Anyway I try to exclude numbers and hyphens ,for instance say Problogger.net ,it is a good domain name compared to Pro-blogger.net or Problogger11.net. The blog platform you choose for hosting is also a factor ,for example you decide to host a blog on WordPress and at a later stage you want to display ads on your blog, you can’t, WordPress don’t allow you (anyway if you use Wordpress as a movable type ,you can!)

2. Content: content is the king. Provide latest and interesting content for your readers to generate more traffic. Always be honest and truthful to the readers, If one tries to cheat his/her readers with copyrighted content from other websites I bet that sooner or later the blog will be closed forever! So provide original and genuine content for your readers on your blog.

3. Create interesting headlines: Headline is the mirror of your post ,the headline must not be a word or a long sentence, but it must reflect your topic and tempt the visitor to read your post.

4. Exchanging links:Encourage link exchanges (but I’d recommend NOT to waste your time with traffic exchange websites) with other blogs of same topic. If you can afford get your Ad on Google Adwords and other popular Pay-per-click website.

5. Subscription: Insert RSS subscription option as well as email subscription on your blog ,if the user thinks that your blog is worth reading he’ll subscribe and this helps you to generate a steady traffic and stable income!

6. Promote your blogs on social bookmarking websites: Social bookmarking websites like Digg and Stumbleupon are a great source of income. You could also utilize social networking websites including Twitter for promoting your blog. Also commenting on others websites can increase your blog traffic.

7. Make offers: Give off free stuffs and offers! For example : Give out ten T-shirts for random RSS/email subscribers on your blog’s birthday! This will get you more subscribers.

8. Reply to feedbacks and comments: Reply to all feedbacks you receive and also to comments in which the commenter asks something or on which you think a reply is necessary ,a good connection with your reader will definitely influence your blog positively.

9. Be confident: At first you’ll generate low traffic or your traffic graph will be like hills and valleys, but the ripe fruits comes with hard and constant work!
