Making Cents Online

Money Making

My first steps towards creating an online income for myself.

I registered accounts at Associated Content and Triond on the same day – 24th October 2008 and I don’t remember whether it was a blustery day or anything remotely atmospheric.  At first I liked Triond best, because every night after work when I logged in, I’d see a few cents increase.  Then I liked Associated Content more, because even though they took days to adjust the stats, it seemed I was making more there.  Then I found out that Helium don’t just give me pay-per-click like the other two do (me not being a US citizen) and so I signed up there too.

In this, the first month, I haven’t made very much money at all anywhere – and that’s even after I multiply it by ten to convert it to my local currency.  I am persevering, however.  I am also reading lots of blogs and forums on the subject of keyword density and SEO in general and despite being sick to the gills of all the little Web 2.0 link promotion devices, I’m workin’ ‘em, baby.

Online, things move so fast that I keep feeling as if I make and break my freelance writing “career” on a daily basis.  I am thrilled when my PVM bonus goes up at Associated Content, when I get comments at Triond or when my article moves up the ranks at Helium.  When the opposite happens, I’m utterly dejected – OK not dejected as such, I just said that for dramatic effect.  All the while I keep applying for freelance online writing and blogging gigs, with no luck so far.

So I keep writing, assuming that my content just isn’t good enough yet.  I know I can generate hits – my blogs prove that, but I am very sure I need to refine my copywriting skills a whole lot.  I’m not sleeping a whole lot, but I need to earn money and so my motivation to work is very high.

Last night I signed up at Amazon Turk and made a few quick dollars and if I can convince myself to do that instead of spending silly amounts of time on Facebook, it may just be my best earner yet.  But we’ll see.

Love the article – made me think! Is this new age writer exploitation ? Previously paid by word (horribly so generally)now paid per click!?
