Frugal living is all about the money you save. What is often over looked however, is the ability to make extra money. There are plenty of things you can do right from your own home to earn some extra money.
Being frugal is a lifestyle choice, many people decide to become frugal for a range of personal reasons. However, one of the biggest reasons is debt, or simple lake of incoming cash. Being frugal doesn’t mean you can’t seek out extra ways of making money, far from it. If you can find ways to earn extra cash, and use that cash to pay off anything your owe or put it in to your savings for the big purchase you were planning, you’ll find that being frugal comes to an end a lot soon than you anticipated.
I can’t claim to be an expert on making money, if I was I wouldn’t be writing this website, I’d be off sat on some beach somewhere using my millions for frivolous things! However, I have dabbled in a few things, I am listing here, things that I have tried and that I have found work, I can’t guarantee huge amounts of money, but you may be able to make a few hundred extra pounds each month. More than likely however is that you’ve already dabbled in these yourself and found out the benefits and pit falls, but for those who haven’t use the links with the text below to find out more information about each item, some may be interesting reading.
Making money from
eBay: If you’ve got internet access then you’ve probably come across ebay, or heard every one ranting and raving about it. I must admit, about 4 years ago I introduced my mum to eBay, and she was hooked straight away, she’s never looked back, she now sells collectible wade figurines on eBay in her spare time. I would class my mum as a casual eBayer, she started by selling the wade figures she had that were her own, there is what I would call the “car booter”, these people are having a clear out of their things in their house and would normally take them to a car boot sale, however they’ll probably get more money for them on eBay.
Then there are the serious full time eBayers the “traders”, there are surprisingly not that many people that fall into this category, although my dad is, he buys second hand CD’s and sells them on eBay, he makes enough each month to pay for his mortgage and live on as well.
More money on the web: Can you type? Do you have regular internet access? Then you can build a website. You don’t have to have a web site that sells things, no far from it, if you have a passion for something, then you can build a website on it, and monetize it using
Google Adsense. Google Adsense is a nifty little programme run by Google, to provide adverts to webmasters web pages in return the webmasters get paid for every their visitors click one of the adverts. There are rules and regulations however that you must stick to or Google will remove you from the programme. The biggest one are not to click your own ads, and not to encourage you visitors to click, they must do so of their own free will.
Avon: I’m sure every one knows someone who has done Avon at some point in their lives. I still do it now. However I’ve done it before as well. I’m sure I don’t have to explain the principle of making money with Avon, however, just for clarification I will. Avon sell cosmetics, bath, beauty and some household products.
Representatives are supplied with brochures which last for 3 weeks, during those 3 weeks the representative has to visit the people in a particular area that they have been given, they drop off the brochures, and pick them up with any orders. The representative then places the order with Avon, the order is received on credit, the representative then delivers the orders to the customers, collects payment, and they pays Avon, keeping any commission. Commission for orders over £74 is 20%, commission over £140 is 25%. Then the cycle repeats every 3 weeks.
Do you shopping at
Amazon
? You can sell there too: I love Amazon, I’ve forever looking for new books to read, but did you know that Amazon have a feature called the Market place. What happens is you register to sell you books (or other things they have on their data base), then you find the book you wish to sell and list yours for sales.
You set your price, there is no upfront charges, however when you sell your book Amazon will take their fee out of the money you have been paid. You’ll receive credit for postage as well. Amazon take care of all of the money handling and then pay you direct into your bank account, it is one of the simplest ways to sell online.
There are many more ways you can earn extra money with out too much extra effort, you just need a little imagination. Try these ideas to get you started and I’m sure you will soon come up with your own.
