Having been an MT for 35 years and a QA editor for 5, and owning my own transcription service for 20 years, training medical transcriptionists from scratch, then I must add if you are not 100% experienced or just out of school you need to go look for someone who will be willing to take you on and train you. Even a multidoctors office will be more than you can handle. Finding a specialist would be a start, or a single family doctor. Some online services will take you on, but unless you are very fast and very accurate with both your transcribing as well as your typing, you won’t make enough money to live on. Working from home sounds great, but you have to be dedicated, and be able to keep work time separate from home time. Just a qualifier to your article.

PS Most at-home training courses are a waste of time as no one will hire you after you finish. Save your money and go to an accredited local college.

I agree with Valerie Curtiss… Going to a REAL school is a lot better than having to study at home through the net… But at least you shared your thoughts… That’s what is most important…
