Money Making

Everyday we seem to be hearing about the recession, job losses and unemployment. So it is no wonder people are looking for ways to making money. Scammers are using this as the perfect opportunity to rip-off naïve jobseekers.

Here are a few ways to spot a scam before you apply:

  • The job title says ‘Work From Home,’ this is not a real job title. Legitimate companies write the role of the job and not whether you are working on or offsite.
  • They tell you that you could make vast sums of money. They are trying to play on the jobseekers greed.
  • If it says “No experience required.” Most companies want employees with some skills, experience or knowledge, there are a few jobs that you not to have experience for, like junior roles but most want some understanding of the role at the very least.
  • If there is very little or no knowledge about the company or the job. Does the job ad provide the following information: What are the actual duties? When and where did the company start? How many people does it employ? What products/services does it provide?
  • If the job ad leads to a website the site contains lots of pictures that try and create a luxurious lifestyle image in your head. Pictures of sandy beaches, mansions, cars etc are again trying to evoke greed.
  • You receive an unsolicited email advertising the position. No legitimate company is going to send such adverts to random strangers.
  • They ask you for money. You are the one who is looking for work so why should you pay them? They may ask a fee for membership, exclusive information or secrets, administration fees or processing fees.

Don’t apply for the job if you think it is a scam. There are legitimate vacancies out there you just have to spot the real one’s from the fake. Hopefully the tips above will help you to avoid scams. Good luck!
