How to Make Money Online

Money Making

This article discusses the different ways of making money online and how to avoid many common pitfalls such as scams and low paying websites.

There are several ways of making money online and how you intend to do it will depend largely on what skills (if any) you have already and how much time you have to spare. I will discuss the many ways in which you can make money, provide details of the website and you can make your own assessment about how useful they could be for you.

Most of the companies listed here will pay by PayPal, so if you don’t have an account you will need to set one up here

Surveys

Most people will by now be aware that you can complete surveys online for money and in some cases, points towards gifts and prizes. This is a good way to earn money if you have a broad selection of interests, don’t already work in marketing and have a lot of time to spare.

Remember that you won’t always be eligible to complete the surveys but it’s nice to be considered right? Also bear in mind that you should never, ever under any circumstances pay for access to surveys. Why would any reputable company looking for your help ask you to pay them? They wouldn’t, it’s as simple as that. Please don’t part with your hard earned money when there’s no need to, the likelihood is it’s a scam anyway.

Here is a list of survey providers that I have personally used and found to be quite useful:

Toluna - This Company provides points towards vouchers for Halfords, Amazon, Vistaprint and a few other companies. Although they don’t pay they do provide a lot of surveys, so there’s plenty of scope for building up your points.

Panel base – I’ve been with this company for a little over a week now and all earnings get paid into your PayPal account. It’s a really good site which I can’t recommend enough.

Ciao For surveys – Pays in pound sterling, they have extremely high earnings for the dedicated survey taker. The surveys aren’t mind numbingly boring either, which is always a bonus.

Global Test Market – This Company have sent me several surveys in the last week, unfortunately I have been ineligible but the thought was there. They provide market points which can be spent on various little trinkets that they have on their site.

Opinion World – Another point rewarding survey club.

Surveyhead – This Company pays around 10p per survey.

Lightspeeed – Pays in points, 1,100 points needed to convert into vouchers.

Making Quizzes

PickJack – This site pays you to take and make quizzes, post one question for every 20 answered correctly. It does get quite irritating in the sense that there are a lot of people from the Middle East hoping to make good money through English sites and unfortunately they don’t have excellent writing skills.

On the other hand, that’s what the site is there for; we’re paid to screen the questions before they’re used elsewhere.

Writing Articles

There are tons of sites where you can find work as a writer, in most cases the articles have to be perfect but there’s no requirement for a degree or experience. Here are some ideas to get you going:

Get a Freelancer - This site provides a multitude of work for which you place your bid and apply with samples of your work. There are jobs for writing, editing, advertising and marketing, web design and data entry. This list is not exclusive and there is usually something to meet the needs of everyone.

Elance - Another bidding site, competition is fierce on here so if you want the project bid early to avoid disappointment.

ODesk– This site has a project manager which can be used on or offline, it monitors your work and you are guaranteed payment when bidding on projects on an hourly basis.

Writing Reviews

The thing you need to be aware of about writing articles is that most companies will pay you on a revenue share basis. What that means is that you are paid per 1000 page views for example. Some will require that you have ratings before they pay you but mostly they just require page views.

This method of earning does take a while to see any return. For instance my first week I made a penny. As I added more and more reviews and articles my earnings started to go up. Another good idea is to add friends because people will rate your articles if you rate theirs.

Ciao for Reviews – Pays in pound sterling, an extremely broad product range to review and you can also add your own product/service to review. You always earn more money for the first review on a product so it pays to be original. You can also get 50p automatic payment for referring friends and the equivalent of 50% of their earnings for the six months following their registration.

Review stream– This Company pays an upfront amount for your article, usually around $2. The usual revenue share policy applies thereafter.  There’s great earning potential in the long term.

DooYoo – Pays in points which you can redeem when you reach their threshold. I haven’t actually used this site yet as I’ve just signed up myself so any feedback would be great.

Affiliate Programs

Already have a website?

There are tons of affiliate programs that allow you to promote certain products through an affiliate link; you get paid per signup or click, depending on the site. Of course there are some that you can advertise for without a website, many of them are quite happy to let you advertise in forums because this is usually the best method for conversion anyway.

Google adsense - You can place Google ads on your website and get paid every time someone clicks on one of them! Very low PPC but still it all adds up and doesn’t cost you anything.

Ebay- As you can imagine, Ebay have very stringent acceptance policies so it is a good idea to have your site up and running to the maximum capacity before you apply. They expect high levels of traffic.

Amazon - Amazon have a relatively good affiliate program, it all adds up and if you’re already posting in forums you may as well add them all to your signature right?

Toluna- Toluna surveys also offer an affiliate program, this one is super easy to recruit for because everyone will complete a few surveys here and there for the extra money. You don’t need to have a website and they even allow offline marketing.

Other Ideas

Many people make a great living online by mastering Poker or other online games. It does require a lot of time, patience and skill but I have heard of people making enough money to live comfortably this way. Here are a few good ones to try:

888.com– This site is a general Casino, and does not exclusively deal in poker. They do from time to time offer incentives such as a deposit match scheme.

Pacific Poker  - Dedicated to online poker, they also provide tutorials to help you get started.

There are people who claim to have a “system” when working on the poker and blackjack sites. How much turth there is to this I don’t know-but it may be worth checking out.

There is always financial spread betting, the basic idea is that you figure out whether or not a company’s worth will increase or decrease on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. All earnings are also non-taxable! You can find out more about this here

Text Chat Operator Jobs

There are several companies that offer text chat operator vacancies, come pay well and others pay relatively low. Here are some links to some of the most popular companies:

Text121Chat- This company pays 4p per text.

Evoke chat- This company pays between 10p and 16p per text.

Excel Telemedia- This company pays 8p per text.

Excel telemedia also provide webcam and telephony services, the webcam pays a whopping 25p per minute and may be worth a look if you’re super confident.

As you can see there are heaps of ways to earn money online, all it takes is a little bit of imagination and a lesson in “How to become Internet savvy.” I might have just written the title for my next article! Good luck with the venture and if you need any help please feel free to contact me.

I spread bet using a company based in London UK called SpreadTraderPro.com – They have a trader who publishes the trades he makes, I copy the trades on my own trading platform. Worth a look if you like the idea of trading the markets using a ’safety net’ of copying a professional trader.

    Jay,

if you’re really interested in spread betting take a look at http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/ – you won’t get far copying trades from someone else as it doesn’t teach you how to trade.
