If you are a newbie writer, and are looking to earn money with your writing, here are a few ways to do so.
Writers are an important part of the business community. A copy writers’ words pave the way for all other advertising and marketing efforts. Technical writers can re-write a complicated manual in plain English. And let’s not forget all of the other writers, that write blogs, articles, TV shows, and more.
Writing, if you enjoy it, can be a great and exciting career. For all writers, the dream of making it in the big time is always there. Having that best selling book, being famous, every one knowing your name, it all sounds very alluring.
That is why a lot of new writers want to become writers, they are usually only seeing the glamorous side of writing. That is until they begin to try to sell their writing, and realize that sometimes, it’s much harder than it looks.
However, there is hope for the new, here after known as “newbie” writers. There are a few ways for them to have their writing noticed, and more importantly, start earning them money.
A Few Things To Know
First, newbies have a couple of decisions to make. Will they be part time writers, or are they writing as a full time career? It is strongly suggest that newbies have a second income while beginning as a writer. They aren’t guaranteed to be making very much just starting out.
Another question to answer, is what type of experience can come from as newbies’ background? It is much easier to write about a subject that you are familiar with, than it is to write about something you know nothing about.
For example, if a writer has worked as a preschool teacher, they would naturally have an easier time writing about children, preschools, preschool games, etc.., than they would about say, the features of a new television.
The third item a newbie needs to know, is how to write a decent article. An enticing hook, a few strong paragraphs, and a great conclusion, is what is needed if newbies want to earn any money. Articles should be at least 400-500 words, and written on a program like OpenOffice, not Microsoft Publisher.
Now that all of that is understood, let’s move forward.
Article Submission Sites
One of the fastest and easiest ways to get a newbie’s writing on line, is to visit article submission sites. Two such companies are Helium.com, and Associated Content.com. Both of these sites will pay you for your articles, poems, and even song lyrics. Let’s take a look at them individually.
Helium is a site that readers, publishers and other writers can visit and read. The good thing about publishers reading a newbies articles, is that they are given the option to buy them if they want. The bad thing is that Helium usually tries to keep their publishers anonymous, and often they won’t share with the writer who has bought their article.
Articles are listed with the writers byline, and if someone Googles a writers name, their Helium articles should show up as well. Another great thing about Helium is that they offer a strong writing community, and writers must read and rate other writers articles. This process gives you invaluable feedback, as other writers can send each other comments, and newbies can ask questions in the community forums. Helium also offers marketplace alerts, that list titles that publishers need filled.
Associated Content is also an article submission site, that readers and writers can read. They not only accept articles, but also songs, audio files, videos, and slides or pictures. Although more money is paid out for articles of 400 words or more. Articles that have been previously published are welcome as well, but they earn a certain amount per each hundred views, instead of an upfront payment.
It is an excellent place for newbies to “get their feet wet”, because when an articles is submitted, actual editors look it over. Within about five days to a week, they will email you an offer of payment, or explain in detail why it was turned down. Associated Content readers, and other writers can also message and comment, or encourage each other about their articles. These articles will also be listed on Google as well.
Write For Article Providers
Some article providers such as STMwriters.net, hire newbies to write for them. They have so many clients that need articles, that they hire on writers and share the load with them.
Most of these providers require writers to be ghostwriters, and give the client full rights. Which means that no one will know who it really is that is writing the articles, and they will belong to the clients forever. Newbies won’t get a byline for these articles, but they will gain experience, and be able to see their articles online.
These sites usually offer two choices as far as articles go. Newbies can write smaller articles of 250 words, and be paid around $2, or writing the whole 500 word articles for $3. Most require writers to write at least ten articles a day. These sites definitely aren’t a get rich quick scheme. The article provider will always make more money than the newbie.
These sites are also quite time consuming and can be tedious, as you will have to do a lot of research to write about all types of things. Again, what a newbie will gain here is experience. Newbies will need to do a little research to find other article provider sites that are hiring writers. A polite e-mail inquiring if providers are hiring, could never hurt.
In Conclusion
Last, but not least, none of the above mentioned ideas will make a newbie writer extremely wealthy, but they will get their work online, and in front of others. The most these jobs pay is about $2-$6 an article. But if a newbie were to write three articles a day at $3 an article, that would get them around $45.00 a week, five articles a day at $3 an article would net $75, and on and on.
Writing like this might not get a newbie that house in the Florida Keys, but if they write a certain amount of articles each day, they will get a steady, weekly income. And nothing beats the feeling of getting that first dollar as a paid writer. Now that’s glamorous.
