A piece on Sharethis.com, the place I share my work.
The Idea behind writing is imparting information so someone can read it. That is the big thing, getting read. No matter how creative you are or how accurate your information is if no one reads it, there is no point in doing it. Even if you are writing for fun you would like at least one person to read what you have done.
Getting read is a universal problem. With the advent of the internet it got worse, not better. You can now publish at the click of a button, no arguments, no application at some publishing house. The problem then still stays the same universal one: getting readers. Here it is even harder to find readers unless you have some tools and know how to use them.
Using my email and using the share button made getting readers to my blog easier. It never put everything in one basket though. Then I found a site that made advertising easy and gave me complete reference as to what I sent where.
I joined Sharethis and had an instant route to sharing what I wrote. Every time I wanted to advertise a piece I simply clicked the link in my personal bookmarks bar and once it opened I clicked share. This opened a box with links to different sites where I could publish my link. Here I could select where I wanted I t to go and then Share.
Sharethis also have a few features that help me keep track of where I sent what and when. This helps when you share a lot of stuff and you want to keep track not to double post. Everything I shared gets posted to my sharebox and there I can tag it to categorize it for myself.
All of this is work, it is much less work than to have to look up every site and do it individually though. The work is also worth it because it showed up on my stats. Everything I shared that had an income attached to it showed a marked improvement.
You should try it too.
