Five Ways Triond Can Easily Improve Its Network

Money Making

It doesn’t take a genius to notice that there are certain aspects of Triond’s functionality that can easily be improved. And while some naysayer members will argue that adding more options only makes things more complicated (and thus detract newcomers from joining the network at all) I would argue that these chances enhance functionality would only be a boon to Triond already-expanding network, and only foster a greater feeling of community and connectedness among its members. That being said here are five easy ways Triond can easily improve its network.

Chat

I’m not asking for MSN messenger here, or AOL, but a chat button located beside the “Add A Friend” and “Send Message” buttons would be appreciated. At this moment the only method of talking to other members inside of Triond’s own network is by sending users a private message. This is especially tricky when you get dozens of comments and want to thank each user with a polite “Thank You!”

Here’s what you do, make it possible for users to chat with one another. Make it possible for members to contact anyone on the network at anytime, as well as have an indicator to show whether they’re online or offline. Also be sure to give them specific options when it comes to chatting (i.e. the ability to block certain users, the ability to make ones conversations private or public, or the option of having to chat at all). We need to start talking to other users and really leverage the combined efforts of everyone on Triond.

Better Analytics

I am absolutely hysterical when it comes to analytics, stats, and metrics, and while I’m not asking for something en par with Google Analytics, there are some improvements that can easily be done to appease Triond’s members. Chief among them, have a total stats row at the top of content tab so users can view how many hits their articles received without having to count the totals of each individual article.

I find it frustrating when I have to count the total viewership of each article for each month—day, year, all time, etc. This should be applied to earnings, number of comments, and number of likes as well. Note to Triond, this is an easy fix.

Leaderboards

Nothing gets people to act faster than the spirit of competition. If you want to see who the top users on Triond are you can do so either one of two ways (1) go to your dashboard and see what articles make up the “Hot Content” list or (2) to find the top user you can go to the explore tab, then click the users tab below it and see who are the top users.

Here’s what I’m proposing. A very basic leaderboard with the ability to sort users by either total number of views, number of articles published, and yes, even earnings (at the user’s leisure of course) with a rank given accordingly based on the aforementioned criteria. It’s one thing to view your own stats. It’s another to be able to view other users for the purpose of understanding why one author gets more views than another.

This should be the first on your list Triond!

Selective Advertising

This is probably the least likely suggestion to go into effect at Triond but I think it is worth mentioning. When something gets published on Triond, your published article gets a certain amount of money based on the number of views and the number of click-throughs to the advertising on that page, at which point Triond gets one half of the revenue and you get the remaining half.

While I’m still able to create affiliate links to Amazon, Ebay, and other sites it would be cool to have a page where users can input their own username from other affiliate sites (for example, Google Adsense, Hostgator, etc.) and have those ads show up on the site instead of whatever advertisers decide to place on it.

A long shot, I know, but still worth mentioning.

Automated Comments, Subscriber Counts, and other nitty-gritty

Here are a few other miscellaneous items that I would love to be changed to Triond but will probably go unheard by the masses. The first is automated comments. I hate having to send a personal “Thank You” message to every person who puts a comment one of my posts. Now I know this is completely voluntary but I like to thank people. Secondly, I want to be able to create a Feedburner code for my RSS feed and place the number of subscribers somewhere on my blog. Simple right? Also, instead of having a “Share This” button on the article’s page once it’s published I want specific customizable buttons to Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, or any other of the social networking sites offered in the “Share” function on the contents tabs. Really, I don’t think I’m asking for too much.

Interesting ideas – more stats would be great I agree. And while I personally am not so bothered about having a chat function, it might have the added benefit of clearing up the forum a bit by keeping some of the chatter out of there. I’m not holding my breath though :-)

I don’t think chat is a good idea because then it becomes a bit too MSNy and there are other social networking sites that use it too. But the better stats and the leaderboard is a good idea. It kicks the competitive spirit in. Also, Triond has GOT to sort its comment issues out and I think if they updated your earnings every hour or something that’d be nice.
Really nice ideas though, I really like the stats and leaderboard one because it just gives you a better idea of how you are doing.
Good article with some nice ideas.
