Money Making

Practical ways to earn money using digital photography! These are very simple but very doable ideas that you can start at anytime. Digital photography is very enjoyable. If this is your hobby you can use it to earn some extra money for you.

Chances are you already own a digital camera. If you are looking for ways to earn some extra income, then why not use your camera and get started today?

If you love taking pictures, there are great ways here to earn passive income online.

This is great for stay at home moms, for dads, for teenagers, or for anyone looking for another source of income

Make How-To Guides

Take step by step pictures teaching how to do something. For example, how to make sushi. Or how to cook a certain dish. How to make a certain craft. How to fix things. The possibilities are endless. Publish your how-to guides to online sites, such as eHow.com, Triond or Bukisa. Earn money when your articles are read. This is a great way to earn passive income. You make the guides once and get ongoing royalties for as long as the articles are read.

Upload your photos online and get paid when your photos get viewed.

There are online sites where you get paid when your pictures get viewed. An example is Triond. When you upload pictures in Triond they get published in Picable. With Picable you share your photos for free and you get to earn monthly royalties. You don’t have to have the most high-end camera. Even the low-priced digital cameras now can produce really great pictures. Maybe you already have many beautiful pictures saved in your hard drive. Why not upload them to Triond for a chance to earn some extra income? It’s absolutely free to join Triond so there’s nothing to lose. Triond pays out via PayPal.

Shareapic is also another popular website where you can upload your photos and get paid. With Shareapic you can upload unlimited number of pictures, and there are no file size restrictions. You can create your own galleries and show to other people. Shareapic pays $0.22 for every 1000 picture views. They pay via PayPal or gift certificates from Amazon.com. With Shareapic you can place your own Bidvertiser codes.

Both Picable and Shareapic are open to non-US residents.

Upload your photos to Stock Photo Sites, and earn commission when someone downloads your photos.

Many people are earning money from Microstock Photography.

What is Microstock Photography? As the name “micro” implies, it means selling photos for low price (usually ranging from a dollar to a few dollars). The idea is that when images are cheap and affordable, then more people will buy. In the past, mostly only professional photographers were selling their photos. It was very hard for amateurs to get into the market. But now Microstock photography allows anyone, even amateurs, to upload their photos online and have a chance to earn some money.

Some examples of popular stock photo sites are:

Bigstockphoto.com

Fotolia.com

Dreamstime.com

IStockphoto.com

There is a website called microstockphotography.com where you can get many useful information.

Pet Photography.

If you like pets and photography, then this is a super bonus for you! Many people want photos of their pets taken. Let people know that you’re into pet photography. In the beginning maybe you can volunteer to take the photos. When you come out with really good pictures then why not create a mini website showcasing your best pet photos? Some internet services come with a webspace. Check with your internet service provider because if you already have a webspace, you can make use of it And when you have your website ready then you can email the link to your friends. Ask them to help you with referrals. Chances are if you have made one successful pet photography session, you will have more coming. Word of mouth referrals are very powerful!

Kids Photography.

There is a very big market potential for kids photography. Parents love pictures taken of their children. My suggestion is to contact as many families as you can, and let them know that you are starting your kids photography business. Volunteer to take pictures of their children, and let them know there’s no obligation to buy. If you want to take it one step further, learn a graphics software program so you can add nice effects to the photos before showing to your customers. Like for example make effects like black and white, sepia, or put beautiful backgrounds and frames. Digital photography combined with graphics program create really outstanding results. I suggest using Paint Shop Pro, it is much cheaper then Photoshop and there are many cool things you can do with it.

Take photos of people’s home inventory.

Let people know that you offer home inventory service. This is a very important thing to do but homeowners usually do not have time to do it. Having pictures of belongings is needed for insurance purposes.

Take pictures of the belongings like electronics, furniture, artwork, jewelries, art, etc. Organize the pictures well. Save the photos in a CD, and also include a list of the things and indicate the value.

Offer a home service for family portraits.

Families usually do not have time to go to the studio, so why not offer a home service to take a photo of the family? The advantage of being at home is that the family can also take their picture with their pet.

Regarding the printing of photos, there are many options. You can buy a really good quality printer so you can immediately print out the photos. Or you can have them printed at a lab. Costco has a good quality photo finishing service and the price is inexpensive. Another option is to save the photos in a CD/DVD and sell them the digital file itself.

Attend important events such as graduation or sports events.

Ask people if they want to have their pictures taken, and let them know there’s no obligation to buy. Then if they like the picture you can print it out for them. In this case it may be better if you have a portable photo printer.

I liked this article very much. I have some of my kennel’s pics posted on Shareapic. I really like it there myself and you can link your gallery to places like MySpace where people just love looking at your pics and earn some extra money. I also like that Shareapic allows you to put your copyright on all your photos so that no one can copy them, unlike Triond. Triond seems to have a problem with this but anyone can click on your photo and copy it on Triond and they haven’t done anything to prevent this from happening. This is why I don’t post my best photos on their site.

Great article. However, the rates of earnings mentioned in the above sources might not encourage many photographers.

Probably the best way to sell your pictures online is to have your own website and offer your images there.
