The Free Outloud Outbrain Traffic for My Triond Articles

For the last couple of months, I am observing the Top Referring Sites graph on my Triond Dashboard with glee. The top slot, or perhaps the next one, comes from outloud.outbrain.com, outperforming even the traffic.outbrain.com. The Outbrain is a widget that Triond has used on its site that lists out certain recommendations at the end of your articles based on the current article’s subject. I had written on this widget earlier (’Did you See any Jump in Your Triond Earnings Lately?‘), but from the responses to that article, I could see many of the readers didn’t understand what this widget was. Many of the readers merely assumed they have to take some action to insert this widget for their Triond articles. No, you don’t have to. The Triond has already done this, which is why you are seeing the recommendations at the end of your articles. The following screen shot at the end of my top article ‘The Miraculous Castor oil‘ appears as below:

The links in ‘You might be interested in’ lists some of the articles at Triond on related topics. This is the source for traffic.outbrain.com that you might be seeing in the graph on your Triond Dashboard. The importance of this widget comes from the traffic it brings to some of the articles that you wrote long back, which will never appear on your friend’s radar or on the ‘Hot List’, however great they might be. Thanks to the widget, they get listed on others’ articles and catch the eye of some interested soul.

Now pay attention to the words ‘Selected for you by a sponsor’ that appear on the above screenshot. That’s the role of Outloud. If you have some articles that are extremely good – only, they haven’t been marketed well, then you may, if you desire, pay $10 per month per article, and they will preferentially appear on others’ articles and provide you with profits. The point is you must be sure the article will grab attention of the readers by its title to give you earnings exceeding the $10 that you have spent on it. Now, I wouldn’t do this, as I don’t have such promising articles in my arsenal. Then how come I’m getting traffic (and income) from Outloud? I don’t know, but it tickles me greatly. On second thought, may be it appears as an Outbrain recommendation on one of the articles for which somebody has paid to Outloud. Anyway, who wouldn’t be happy with free stuffs?

Postscript : I forgot to mention that for the past couple of months, there has been no traffic from Triond. Since that is impossible, my conjecture is that traffic.outbrain represents the former Triond traffic and outloud.outbrain represents the former traffic.outbrain. In that case, the mystery gets solved. Hope Triond gets in to clarify.

    I used to question my income…most of it does not come from Triond readers…but I don’t anymore. I don’t even know how my articles get on Stumbleupon and Google. I don’t put them there. I wouldn’t know how. It would scare me silly to invest $10 in one of my articles but it’s nice to know there’s a place I could.

    One would not want to use ‘paid-for traffic’ anyway; violation of terms of service.

    @Uma,
    I too think in the same line as you do for paying $10 for traffic. Atleast wouldn’t try with Triond articles. Bukisa articles are fine as the earnings rate at Bukisa is min. 6 times compared to that at Triond.

    That’s interesting, I wouldn’t pay either but if Triond lists it that’s wonderful.
