While I’m always on the lookout for new sites and forums to try, a few weeks back I inadvertently found what has been, for me, the proverbial jackpot for viewers. This site has literally generated tens of thousands of hits for me in the past couple of weeks.
I use a large number of resources to farm out my articles. I use all of the available links to promote my articles. Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit. And when used correctly, they all work. This will normally generate between 50-200 hits per article.
I follow this up by spamming the articles in topic specific forums; for example, I spammed a Metallica article in a number of Metallica chatrooms, my NFL preview in NFL football and sports forums, and my American Idol article in Idol forums. Depending on the subject, this has gotten me anywhere from a few dozen to a few thousand views. (And, in a few cases, many thousands).
But while I’m always on the lookout for new sites and forums to try, a few weeks back I inadvertantly found what has been, for me, the proverbial jackpot for viewers. Every article I put on this site has, in short order, reached the hot list (or, on other sites where I publish, the equivalent). This site has literally generated, for me, tens of thousands of hits in the past couple of weeks.
I have made a practice of sharing my knowledge on publishing with others, both in the forum and through articles. But this is one I almost sat on, as misuse could corrupt what really is a jackpot. But this is a virtually incorruptible site…. a little place called Craigslist.
I was actually researching an article about the site, and certain numbers jumped out… namely 47,000,000 unique visitors per month. Surely there had to be a way to tap in…
Turns out it isn’t that hard. Takes a little time, but dear lord, does it pay off. So share I will…. how to pimp Craigslist in 5 steps.
- Sign Up…. self explanatory
- Find the discussion forums… you will have to wait a week before posting, but this gives you time to learn the lay of the land.
- Important… Do not post twice in separate areas with the exact same words…. you will get banned. Make changes to each individual post. This will probably involve some experimentation.
- Delete your post within 36 hours. The initial surge is where the majority of the hits come from, anyway. Longer that that, and you yourself will be bombarded with spam.
- If you choose to post in other areas other that writing specific, you will be banned. Do not try to slip your plug into the wrong areas. It is unnecessary, and again, will get you banned.
That’s it… that easy. I’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks, as I said, but the results have been astounding. Small note… if you are looking for likes and comments, this method is virtually useless. And since both are necessary for any kind of prolonged stay on the hot list (at least most of the time) then don’t simply use this.

I like this article because you’ve spoken very honestly about Craigslist giving its positives and negatives. The views do seem pretty great but I’m a bit sceptical about the amount of work it has (post in forums, delete, yada yada) and it does carry an element of risk (not that it would affect me in any way) but seems like its paying off for you so why not try it out?

This is interesting!
August 27th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I like SU and reddit, but I still dislike Digg. As for forums, I guess it depends on the person. I only post to one forum for my history articles and most of those people are scholars, so the writing has to be superb. Great tips for new and old writers though. Many people have no idea how to market their articles.
August 27th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Good information, however, spamming is a major issue – so all take care and be aware!
August 27th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
P.S. I don’t have much time for forums and don’t really like them. I prefer to use searches and traffic exchanges.
August 27th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Good tip – I have to laugh at the reader who commented that it “sounds like a lot of work.” If you’re really generating 10’s of thousands of hits, then the minimal amount of work sounds like it is well worth it. I think people really want a one-click method of generating traffic, or a no-work solution to making $$$. I’m afraid those people will be disappointed.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
nice article
August 28th, 2009 at 7:26 am
Thanks, i’ll try it
August 28th, 2009 at 8:55 am
kewl
August 28th, 2009 at 9:10 am
Truth, I didn’t read the article because I already know the answer…
The quickest and easiest way to get thousands of views on your article is to make an article about the quickest and easiest way to get thousands of views on your article because then you get all of the people on Triond and other pay-for-content sites wanting to read your article because they want thousands of views so they can have money!
Long story short, good job bro spend the money you are making wisely haha
August 28th, 2009 at 9:37 am
excellent tips there, certainly will be trying some of these later, marketing your work/article can take a little time but there’s no real easy way to drive huge traffic to a piece unless there’s some line-crossing involved somewhere. Put the work in and you should see the results when it comes to effective marketing, nice piece!
August 28th, 2009 at 9:55 am

I’m a little lost on what you would put down for your article under the writing forum. Let’s say I had an article on fishing lines….Would I say….Before you buy please see this article on fishing lines. And then post the link?
