Setting up a site or a blog is very simple these days. The harder part is to get visitors to your site/blog. The more visitors you get the better the ranking of your site/blog. It also motivates you as the site/blog owner to do more. I have experimented with several ways of promoting my website and blogs and found some that worked well and others not that well. Here I would like to share with 4 ways I found that were effective in increasing the number of visitors to my site/blog:

1. Content – Surfers like to see new contents each time they visit a site/blog. Update your site regularly with new materials to attract visitors.
2. Site layout – Keep the layout simple so that the loading time is short. Visitors are put off by long loading time.
3. Traffic exchange sites – register with traffic exchange sites and promote your site as much as you can. This method is very effective but you can be sure the visitors to your site are also trying to promote their sites on the same traffic-promoting site.
4. Take part in forums and discussion groups and leave your site address as your signature.
5. Post comments on other people’s blog and leave your site address so that they will reciprocate your visit to their site.
6. Social networking sites – register on as many social networking sites as you can and put a link to your site on the profile page
7. Exchange links with other sites. You can normally contact a site owner and offer to exchange links.

Remember promoting a site takes time and effort but the dividends are good.
