How to Get More Traffic?

Marketing

I’ve read a lot of the “How to get more traffic” type articles at Triond and other sites. In many of them they talk about the importance of submitting our pages to the search engines like Yahoo, Bing, Mamma, Google, etc. But the frustrating part is that they don’t actually tell us HOW.

Search Engine Optimization

That is great, but those fancy words are just telling us what to do. They’re not telling us HOW to do it. So far, none of the articles I’ve found claiming to tell me how actually tells HOW this is accomplished. There is a huge difference between telling us what to do, and telling us how to do it. The gap between them is as wide as an ocean!

I Search the Search Engines and Mostly to no Avail!

I go to the Google search page, and I find nothing about how to register a page. I go to Bing and I find nothing about it. I go to Mamma, the mother of all search engines, and I find Zippo. So far, Yahoo is the only one where I have actually found a link at the bottom right of the page where it says, Submit Your Site, otherwise, I go to any other search engine page, and I find nothing, not a thing, Nada, Zip, Nil, Not anything, Zero, Zilch, Naught, Nonentity. It’s just not there!

By the way, here is that Yahoo page: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

See, I’m at least providing the Yahoo link, unlike just about any other article on this subject. But to be fair, I could not have possibly read every article there is on this subject. So, if anyone knows of one that actually does provide these links, and really does tell us how to do it, rather than just what to do, then please leave a comment with the link to that article.

{However, be warned, if you do that, and I find that the article you suggest really does not provide any genuine “how to” information, like the afore mentioned links, then that comment will be deleted. Because, like I’ve said, if the article just tells us what to do, but does not tell us how to do it, then it is useless, and deserves no attention from anyone.}

Willing to do the Work

I’m ready and willing to do the work, but very frustrated because I don’t know how. The one exception being Yahoo, for which I just found the link while writing this article; otherwise I’ve got no clue for any of the other search engines. Google, Bing, Mamma, etc remain unknown. And thus far, I have found no one who really tells me how. Just going to any of these search pages doesn’t do it. So, I reason there must be other specific pages among all of the many pages that Google, Bing, Mamma, etc have out there on the Internet. There must be specific pages, specially designed just for the purpose of setting up ones page links on these search engines, just like the specific Yahoo link I found today. But other than Yahoo, I don’t know where those pages are, or what their specific addresses might be.

So, how about actually providing the specific links? Cuz just going to the search engines themselves does not help me find the way to actually register or index or whatever the hell it is one is supposed to do to get ones links set up on these search engines. Unless you provide the links in your article, then you are NOT telling us HOW, rather you are just telling us what to do! Telling us what to do is NOT the same as telling us HOW to do it!

Teach

One learns by being taught. Knowledge does not just spontaneously pop into ones head when someone says, “Oh and be sure to register your links.” Well, HOW? Give me specifics for multiple search engines. Don’t be so damn vague!

Provide the Actual Links!

If any of these supposedly “How To” articles actually were telling us how to do this, then they would provide those specific links to the pages where this is done for each of these search engines, like I did above with Yahoo. Now that would be extremely helpful, and useful. That would actually be the beginnings of telling us HOW. I’m sure that once one gets to those pages, then the pages themselves would tell us the “step by step” part. But until I know where to go, then I can not even begin to learn the actual “How To” portion of this equation. Now that I have found out the link for Yahoo, I will begin this learning process with that particular search engine, but the rest currently remain an unsolved mystery.

The Challenge

So, I challenge any and all who would be so bold as to leave a comment on this article. Give us some links. Tell us where to go to get started on this road of learning, in order that we can actually begin to know how to register our page links with the search engines. And don’t just give us the search engine links. That would be useless. Rather, give us the specific submission page links. That’s where the money is.

I want to know, but can not know until I am taught. Just telling me that “Search Engine Optimization” is important, doesn’t tell me jack! And it sure doesn’t tell me how!

Someone, please teach the actual HOW part!!!

As I learn more of the necessary links, I will edit this article and add them here, for the benefit of all readers.

As promised, the following is a list of both major and not so major search engine submission links, which I’ve learned thus far from those who responded to my plea for such links, as well as from some of my own searches.

Thank you to all respondents.

Already knew the Yahoo Submission page: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

Now here is the Google Submission page: http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

And the Bing Submission page: http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx

Then when you submit to Mr. Definite, they pass the link on to 350 different search engines and crawlers for free: http://mrdefinite.com/submit-website-url/ This is a free site, and pretty valuable, since each submission goes to 350 search engines.

Search Hippo is a small search engine that feeds info to Dogpile. You have to sign up, and then they send you an email with a link you must click in order to make the registration effective. It is free: http://www.searchhippo.com/addlink.php

“Words in a Row” describes itself as a Search Engine Registration Primer. It has some good general information on the topic, as well as several links for submitting your pages: http://www.wordsinarow.com/search-engines.html

Thanks to Hombre, we have this link, which has a very good directory of submission links on this page: http://bblmedia.com/addurl.html

Active Search Results (ASR) is an independent Internet Search Engine using a proprietary page ranking technology with Millions of popular Web sites indexed. You can add your web pages to ASR with this page: http://www.activesearchresults.com/addwebsite.php  After submitting your first page to them, you will get a confirmation e-mail. If you confirm, they will register you as a member, (free by the way), and that will rank you page higher than if you do not register. I recommend registering with them. It is free, after all, and with your page ranking higher, it should get a bit more traffic.

These are the links I’ve accumulated, so far. If I acquire any more especially good ones, I will add them to this current list.

  4. Dreyan Says:

Most search engines don’t have that feature because they trawl for new sites automatically every once in a while.
