Backlinks are important for SEO because search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a number of quality backlinks and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query.

Anchor text is important when someone links to you. I am not going to go too far into effective use of anchor text or How to get high PageRank as I have wrote on these before, but If the link says “Great Dog Food!” and the link goes to a Hotel website, then the link is not good, not relevant and has no credibility. So, if you SEO the anchor text to death, then things will be great …right? Well, maybe or maybe not. The person that actually links to you, in my opinion, currently as of June 2008, is the most important factor of the entire link!

We all read about it every day, write naturally, pay attention to keyword density, be honest, don’t be too perfect, and have a bit of error, and on and on. The bottom line is what we are hearing is be more human. Google likes humans. The web already has millions of experts who can’t be fooled when it comes to determining if content is real, useful, valuable or not, who already post across the web on thousands of topics, very trustworthy links that Google is looking for in the first place. These people ARE the algorithm that is most trusted and valuable.

I think it is important for any serious marketing campaign, for any Internet venture, to include a budget and allowances for the creation, development and maintenance of personality accounts on various high traffic industry based forums, blogs and , article repositories, reviews or other web 2.0 based services or to hire the services of such individuals.

What I mean by this is, sign up to popular forums, blogs, articles repositories, reviews sites and any high traffic web 2.0 based services and do not spam but become a valued member of long standing. This is for the long haul. You need to become assets on these sites, post comments, articles, ask for advice, give answers and just participate as much as you can. Take a real interest in other members. Ultimately, 6 months down the road you have 2 to 3 thousand posts on these sites, you have the cool rank title, you have tons of backlinks but above all you have a reputation that is worth more than all that.

When you write posts in the future, you will be an expert at that by then; you will craft them in a manner for maximum effect on many levels. If done right you could be providing substantial traffic as well as helping establish high PageRank for various sites. The bottom line is this takes a lot of time. Definitely 1-2 hours per day, 5 days a week of someone’s time, if not more and that person needs to be intelligent.

Your web marketing future will be affected by this human wall of trustworthy content-experts and to include them in your link building plans will make things easier and better for you.
