After setting up a blog and creating some great posts, the next logical step is to bring in some readers to read the amazing articles that you’ve written. However, there’s one problem. How are you going to do that when ad campaigns cost a lot of money that you just don’t have? Well first you can start by reading this article that I wrote highlighting 5 Ways to Get More Traffic to Your Blog and secondly you can keep reading for 5 handy tips on bringing those readers in for free!
1. Join Up
Surely you must read blogs in your niche, right? If you have a favourite blog you should interact with the blogger over on that site and network! There are millions of blogs created every year and even more blog posts created every day so it’s no surprise that many blogs fail. Teaming up with a fellow blogger can prevent your blog from ‘failing’ as you’ll have one another to rely on. Joining up means that you’ll be able to link to each other purely out of kindness and friendship which will mean that you’ll both have an influx in readers from each other’s sites and after all friendliness is 100% free!
2. Guest Post
Next, I want you to look at some more blogs in your niche, this time it doesn’t have to be your favourite (but it helps). We all save the best posts for our own sites, or at least you should anyway, however, that doesn’t mean that we can’t spread our writing out a bit around the web. Come up with an interesting post that you think lots of people would like and then contact the blogger of a blog in your niche, checking their guest posting guidelines first (if they have any) and submit your guest post to them. Many bloggers are willing to include a link to your blog as well as a small bio about you when you guest post which ensures a flurry of new readers heading your way! The Internet is a big place but with enough ‘post spreading’ getting the word out will be easy.
3. Twitter
On my blog, I have a Share This widget under every single post which allows readers to submit the post to their favourite social media site. Personally, I like Twitter the most as it allows me to interact with millions of people all over the world without having to know them as is the case with Facebook. I also know that Twitter has great potential and can be used to get the word out about previously unheard of sites, especially with everyone ReTweeting their favourite links. Not only is Twitter free, it is specifically designed for people to share things. Whether that be blog posts, or affiliate links, the possibilities are endless.
4. Link Sharing
I’ve already mentioned this with the first point but I feel as if I need to elaborate a little on the subject. Link sharing is incredibly important when it comes to the web. Without it, no one would know anything about any website and everyone’s traffic levels would be seriously low! By picking a site in your niche, regardless of whether you know the blogger that well or not, you can offer to exchange links. All you have to do is contact the other blogger and propose a link exhange and you will put a link to each other’s sites in a prominent place on your websites. 5. Comments
Every blog that I can think of off the top of my head has a comment box. They’re there for readers to show their opinions and voice their thoughts. Most comment boxes allows readers to not only put their names but to add a link to their sites too which makes them the perfect tool for free blog promotion. Now I’m not saying that you should leave a bunch of comments that say ‘great post’ or ‘that was really helpful’ I’m talking about high-quality comments that are at least a few sentences long and aren’t just an extended compliment but actually bring something extra to the article. A good comment can bring in a lot more hits as well as a few loyal readers so go ahead and leave some comments on sites in your niche and see how it works!

FaithBlues said that many of these tips don’t work because bloggers lack the perseverance to keep at it and I totally agree on that!
Instant gratification is really nice and who doesn’t love it? But you really do have to put in the time and the work for things to start lining up, as you mention. These methods do work as we all can see many successful blogs using them. It’s a matter of DOING it.

Great tips. As it’s been already said, most bloggers simply don’t have the patience to wait for the traffic to build. Another great (potential) traffic builder is to submit your best articles/photos/videos to Digg, Reddit, Mixx etc. No, not everything will get picked up, but if you have a hilarious photo or video, you site can go from zero to hero overnight.
