While I was blogging several days ago I heard on the radio that Madonna was one of the top money-making touring acts of 2009. The Material Girl is still putting rear ends in the seats after all these years. She made tens of millions of dollars last year. Why do people still come to see her?

Yes, this is a post about blogging and writing.
Several days ago I was fooling around with the comment option on my blog when I enabled the email subscription option for the first time. To leave a comment on a post readers had to supply their email address and if they wanted to they could check the, notify me of follow-up comments by email box and/or the, notify me of new posts via email box. As long as the option was off, nothing. When I enabled the option I suddenly had 23 subscribers to the blog. Now the number is up to 27.
I’m happy and I feel like a moron at the same time. For a blog on WordPress just go to your Dashboard, scroll down to Settings on the left and then click on Discussion. Just check what you want to do. I bet every blog has a subscription option for commenters no matter what the blogging platform is.

When a writer is blogging, he or she must use every option available to increase readership. Subscription helps to do this. Subscription gives the blogger a core audience that keeps coming back and that keeps getting larger. Why do subscribers keep coming back? It’s probably for the same reason Madonna’s fans keep coming back: to enjoy a dependable product of known value.

This is very good advice, I have offered subscription options on my blog for a long time, it helps to encourage people to keep coming back. If there isn’t a subscription facility on your blog try a service such as addthis.com

Jamie, every platform is different but the odds are there probably is some kind of subscription option. I know there is one for WordPress.
PR, I’ve gained four new subscriptions in the passed 10 days. It would be great if that continued.

Great advice. I totally agree with you that when a writer is blogging he or she must do everything to increase readership. Madonna is one of the best pop singers in my opinion. I can see she hasn’t lost her popularity and looks good for her age too.
