On sites overusing the ads by Google.
I love to Stumble. I have a good time surfing around looking for cool and interesting sites. I enjoy the humorous sites, especially the ones with wacky pictures. I am a bit of a techie (self proclaimed) and also look for tech related sites. What really kills me though is the advertisements.
Yep. Ads by Google, and Mpire and others. Don’t get me wrong, I understand them completely and have nothing but respect for what they are. I just hate having to sift through the ads to get to the content of the website. To me there is nothing worse than the flashing header of the “Press here for a free Ipod”. Then down the right side of the site there is the various “Ads by Google” stuff. Usually as you are reading through the content of the site there is a break in the middle of more “Ads by Google”. And of course at the very bottom even more “Ads by Google”.
I understand marketing somewhat. I understand that if the ads were only at the bottom most people will not see them, or flat out ignore them. Putting them at the top or on the side makes sense. I just don’t have to like them. I also don’t have to like the number of them on one site. I know you are trying to make a few cents from Google for the advertisements, but some sites just have overkill.
If you want a “thumbs up” from me for your site you put on Stumble or want me to bookmark so I can return over and over, then don’t have so many darned ads. The site is supposed about you and your content, not Google Ads. Making money from the ads is a nice addition to your sites. Please continue to use the ads. I won’t complain if you have one set of ads. Just don’t insult my intelligence (what little there is for me) with too many ads. They make your site look cheap and that you are only trying to make money rather than put out an interesting site with good information or just fun.
Thanks

two thumbs up… people will click your ads if they want too, all you need is that the ads are seen, not to pollute the content, the content is king not the ads… Great Article!
