Website promotion is the first and most important step after you launch your website. A website without any incoming traffic to it is simply a business without customers. And since its your business here, its of course your duty to get the customers too. If you don’t know where to begin from, given below are a few tips to get you going.
- Optimize your site through web directories and blogs. Web directories are directories on the world wide web that categorizes websites and has links to it. The online counterpart of that thick Yellow Pages directory you could say. www.dmoz.org is a leading directory online, made and controlled by Netscape.
- Further, submit your site links to sites that fall in a similar category as yours. There is an ‘inside’ reason to this – a site with high incoming links to it has high ranking in Google search results. But remember, exchange links with sites that complement your business, not compete.
- A cunning tip. Some websites sell or trade mailing lists of people who have registered on their site. Contact these website owners and you can send personalized mails to people to let them know about your site. Yes I know how it is for someone to see those annoying ad mails popping up in their inbox. But remember a majority of them do revert back to the site, to least check what is it about.
- Besides following the tips above, there is something very simple that you can do: advertise. Right from posters on streets to advertisements on television, pamphlets to t-shirt logos, anywhere and every where that you can afford. These are the places a common man comes the most in contact with. He is bound to get knowledge about your site much sooner than any other way.
- Talking of websites and advertising here think back of those flashy picture adds that you come across while surfing online…… of job sites, gadgets and vacation trips. Well that way of advertising is called user – controlled or paid Internet advertising and involves renting of the advertising space offered by the site. It definitely gives a different dimension and depth to an advertisement.
- Videos are the new tools in this era of marketing. Making interesting and exciting videos relating to your business is the newest way for creative web marketing. It is called Video Marketing and is mostly supported by video hosting sites, like Youtube.
- RSS feeds, email subscriptions and news letters on your site help promote your business. Particularly the easiest way to keep the mass updated about your site happenings.
- Use social media and networking to maintain relations online. These eventually contribute to search engine optimization or SEO as known more commonly. This will also raise your website rank in search engine results. MySpace, Facebook and Twitter can help you here.
- I guess you like articles quite enough that you have been reading this one till here… then why not get an article made for your website as well. You can put it on e-zines online. On second thoughts you could even post it on the same blogs or sites where you would be posting you site links. This would tell people more about your site – what is it about, how would it help them etc.
- Lastly, subscribe for sites that give SEO and internet marketing tips. This is not that least important. It will keep you updated on the latest trends in internet marketing and online business tips.
