Review of mobile Broadband.

Recently I signed up with 3 Mobile Broadband, as I’m living in a rented house with no landline connection. Mobile broadband was my only option.

Just like o2 and Vodafone, 3 claims to offer speeds up to 3.6MB Broadband, this sounds fantastic. However people must note that this is the highest possible speed with hsdpa, so will not always happen, if ever.

I chose 3 as they seemed to have the best pay monthly offer over all, Vodafone have it cheaper for the first three months, but then raise the price. O2’s price is the same as 3’s if you sign up for an 18 month contract, however I felt this was too long, so I went with 3, for the same price per month and only a 12 month contract.

As I said, I’ve been with 3 for a few days, and so far, the service is acceptable. I have reached just over 2MB, once. This was however during off peak time, unfortunately during peak time the speed dropped dramatically.

This aside, for a relatively new service in Ireland, mobile Broadband is great. It is not long since we were dialling up to the internet at crawling speeds, so hopefully the mobile speed will increase to 3.6MB or close in the near future.

Finally

I would recommend this to people, if, like me, they have no other Broadband options in their house. However I would recommend also, checking out the 3’s site first for coverage in your area.

It’s good to get a first hand user account of these mobile broadband packages, because I have heard terrrible reports about some of them.
