In order to establish your presence on the web, you need to have the file that you created hosted by a web hosting company. There are many web hosting providers that available in the web, from free services to paid one. There are pros and cons if you are using the free hosting services.

If you are low on budget, free web hosting should be your choice. There are various hoster that provide free hosting services. Some of them provide simple service where you can host a simple html site and other provide advance service such as form submission, media streaming, and lately the are company that provide free hosting that feature full feature hosting that being provided by paid host. I doubt how they can sustain in providing the free services since how do they pay for their server rentals.

Most of the free service providers are supported by advertisement. This way they can generate income by the advertising on their subscriber’s site. Some providers claim that they cover their expenses by donations from satisfied free subscriber.

For those who has budget for a hosting services, there are few factors that you should consider in getting affordable and reliable hosting service. The first thing that you should consider is how much space that you need for hosting your files. Nowadays, hosting companies allocate a lot of space for their clients. I am confidence that most of the user never use all the space allocated to them. If you are tight on budget, just take a hosting account that provides only the necessary space that you need. This way, you are only paying what you use and fully optimize the usage.

Other thing that you should consider when buying is how much bandwidth that allocated to you. Bandwidth is the amount of data transfer from your site that is calculated on how many people had download or had access your website files. Usually they are allocated on monthly basis and will be reset every month. Media files such as video and music do eat a lot of your bandwidth if a lot of people are accessing and downloading those media files on you site.

Last but not least, is the operating system for your web hosting server. There are few options available such as Linux, Windows and Cold Fusion server. Each of them has their own advantages. Usually it is related to what types of website builder that you use for you site, since each server are different in terms of file extensions and database system that they use.
