Torrents are a great way of sharing and downloading your favorite content. They are like shareware, means while you are downloading some files over a torrent application, at the same time you are also uploading the small parts of the files you already finished downloading.
Torrent protocol was originally developed by BitTorrent Inc. so that it’s also known as BitTorrent protocol. It is a peer to peer file sharing protocol. Here peer-to-peer means, we are sharing data stored on our hard drives directly to some other user who is using the same torrent over some torrent clients;Such as, BitTorrent, uTorrent, or Vuze, without intermediatry network hosts. This is far different then a client-server model, where only server ’serves’ data.
How to download through torrent?
In order to download through a torrent, you need to install some BitTorrent client. Try uTorrent, which is a tiny client.
After installing the client, just visit one of you favorite BitTorrent traker site. Some of the most used sites are: The Pirate Bay, Mininova, isoHunt, SumoTorrent. (These sites are only torrent indexing sites similar to Google search which searches our desired term, means the data you are going to download is not stored on any of these site’s servers. The data is shared by users like us. Thus we can’t request any torrent tracker sites to delete some content even if it’s offensive or copyrighted.)
Search for the content you required to download. For example, Search “Ubuntu Linux 9.04″ on The Pirate Bay,and select the most appropriate torrent from the results. The results shows torrent name, size, peers and seeds.

“Here Seeders (SE) means the persons who have already downloaded some files/have the files, and are now actively allowing others to download the small data portions (chunks). The leechers are those who are downloading small data chunks from the seeds available. These chunks can be dowloaded from many seeders based on the number of seeders. When all chunks are downloaded then only the entire application, video or CD/DVD Image considered finished. If some application’s seeders decide not to seed/close the connection, then all the peers may not able to download the entire application, in such case all they can do is a request to such seeders to seed the application else peers need to download some new torrent with more seeders.”
“Remeber, whenever you are downloading something popular content, you may find lots of seeders. Problems are usually faced when you try to download very specific software or books, as all may not interested in such stuff.”
So download the desired torrent file (very tiny file), and the browser itself may ask you to load it to uTorrent.
That’s it! You’ve done! The application will start that download if seeders are available. (And of couse if you have working net connection!)
How to create your own torrent?
“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared” -Buddha
Ya, it’s true! Morally it’s not good to keep the software you downloaded just with you! Remember, you are able to download your favorite content from torrent as someone has shared that thing by creating a Torrent. So “Don’t Just Download, also Upload some stuff you may feel someone may find interesting!” It’s easy and fun!
Here are the steps:
1) Open your BitTorrent Client Window (Here used uTorrent)

2) Select source file or folder by browsing, add trackers and Comments. A popular tracker is http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce. You can find out some more trackers from sites such as Torrentking.org. Some may require you to register on their site and some may just allow you. Select ‘Create and Save as’.

And you have created a torrent! Please don’t forget to save the .torrent file in the same folder as the data file.
The next step is, you need to upload this torrent to some site such as Mininova. For doing so just visit the www.mininova.org, register and upload by clicking the ‘Upload’ button on navigation panel.
And you just did it! Never forget to seed! Now share your World!
Important: It’s illegal to download or upload copyrighted content over the internet. BitTorrent is not intended to spread piracy as it’s just a sharing client, everything depends upon how you use it! Some security products specify that the peer-to-peer transfer habits may be tracked by authorities if illegal then may take legal steps! So it’s better not to download copyrighted content. However, if you are much concerned about your privacy, you can use PeerGuardian. Remember, none of the tools guarantee 100% privacy!
