This is a guide on how torrenting/P2P downloading works.
Okay, so you want to understand how to torrent files from the internet. First off you should know that downloading torrents requires a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) downloading program such as Bittorrent or uTorrent. This is how it all works. Someone uploads a file to the internet, the uploader becomes a seeder(more on that later), and someone who wants the file becomes a leecher (more on that too later), once that person is done downloading they proceed to become a seeder, if they so choose.
So,now you’re wondering “What in the world is a seeder and a leecher?”. Here it is, a seeder is someone who allows you to download the file from them. So when you download the file (leech) you are downloading the file from that/those person(s). Basically its allowing you to download the file from multiple people’s computers rather than downloading it from a server from the internet. Now, “what’s a leecher?” you asked? A leecher is someone who wants to download the file from different seeders…remember the people allowing you to download it? What a leecher does is use up seeders to get the file, which is why a large amount of leechers isn’t quite desired.
So now you know who’s who. You may be wondering “Well how do I get a good download speed?”. The key thing to look for on a torrent is the ratio of seeders to leechers to be as high as possible. The more seeders the faster the download. If there’s more leechers than there are seeders it’ll be a slow download for everyone because multiple people are leeching from a single seeder. Always look for more seeders than leechers. Well now you’re informed.Happy downloading!
