Lets take a look at how certain countries can legally stop you from torrenting.
Just recently my website VenomTorrent was denied hosting at HostingInsiders because I was breaking German Law by having my site link to torrent files. Surely I could understand, if I was doing something truely illegal.
I don’t really understand why .torren files can be illegal. They hold no Data whatsoever, they don’t even get bigger than 1 MB, so how can I be downloading something Illegal? This is a big discussion that has been going on, sense torrents have evolved. It is something that needs to be addressed, I think.
If I want to download .torrent files, I think I should be allowed to. A lot of you may comment on the large variety of Torrent Trackers. Yes, they should be more illegal than my website. Because these sites are hosted in countries like Sweden, where laws as stupid as ours don’t apply (ex. They can download what they want, on their own computer) they can run a website such as a Torrent Tracker.
If no one knows what a torrent tracker is, it pretty much “tracks” the torrents. It is used by Torrent Clients that are used to download Torrents, they call information from the Tracker, about where to locate other people online to download the data that you are requesting. In return the tracker sends you information like IP’s and Hostnames of people who have that movie or game that you want.
So you can see that Trackers really shouldn’t be illegal either. No one is holding this Copywritten software or movies, or even games. Only the Computers that are downloading and uploading are. So why are so many websites getting shut down, and even denied hosting like mine was? Not sure really. Maybe people are just scared to stand up for their digital rights. I know I’m not.
