Lime wire, the world’s fastest peer to peer file sharing website has crossed its expectations with captivating many die hard down loaders. It has streaked past bit torrent and mini-nova to be the best software in the world. Mainly, there are two versions available. A free version and a purchased “enhanced” version. The one of a kind ability of this software is that it is compatible with any computer with JVM or Java Virtual Machine installed. This means almost anyone with a CPU can download it. Simple! Lime wire makes use of Digital Audio Access Protocol to share its files. Thus, any files shared when lime wire is running will be detected on the local network. Lime wire has also the title of being the first file sharing program to support firewall-to-firewall file transfers. It is also includes bit torrent support. There is a quite a huge differences in the free version and the purchasable version. Firstly, the free version only allows a maximum of 8 hosts of an identical searched file at any one time while the purchased version offers up to 10. Secondly, the paid version offers 66% better search results and faster downloads than the free version due to the number of hosts. However, not everything is good about lime wire. It has also received much criticism too. There were cases amounting because of the software such as using it to commit identity theft. One Gregory Thomas Kopiloff of Seattle used Lime Wire to search other people’s computers for shared financial information. He then used it for his advantage in an online shopping spree. There were also reports of malware and viruses due to downloading stuff from Lime wire. A Trojan infected some users who downloaded some apple soft wares. Although these, lime wire has moved on to offer more services. For example, the lime wire store has been launched to offer songs for $0.99 each.Video content is available as well but has a limited catalog.
