Is it rightful to download entertainment from the Internet? You may find the answer at the end, you’re also welcome to give me comments and opinions…
Recently, the Hong Kong Government discussed about whether downloading entertainment from the Internet is rightful or not?
In the producer’s point of view, every entertainment has its own copyright. They spend a lot of time and efforts to produce their entertainments. Once the other upload their works without their permission and then allow other users to download them, they will infringe the copyright and break the law. Also, the music and movie producers will not have income. On the contrary, if the producers want to share their entertainments with the Internet users, they will upload them on their platforms and allow the users to download and give comments to them. Besides, if users have the permission of the producers, the users can share their works with other users. In these two cases, users can download entertainment from the Internet without infringing copyright.
In the Internet user’s point of views, they would think that once the works put on the Internet, then it will belong to public. And so they think that it is absolutely legal to download entertainment from the Internet. Moreover, as a user, all of us know the reason why we still keep on infringing copyright through the Internet. Using Internet is the most convenient way to get what we want, especially downloading music. None of us wants to break the law; we just want entertainment in a more convenient and cheaper way. We don’t want to spend time in shopping and pay expensively for a few songs. If there’s a cheaper, a more convenient way to download songs, why don’t we try?
Nonetheless, how can the government solve it?
To begin with, education is undoubtedly the best cure. From the children enter kindergarten, teachers have to start teaching them, downloading unauthorized materials is prohibited. Second, setting laws is a efficient way too. It is the most efficient way to stop every thing. But is it the best method? Afterwards will it aggravate the problems? Third, open on-line multimedia stores can be a good solution. The company can tell their customers they should first enter the advertisements of the sponsors on the site, then they will have discount of every item. This is a good idea which can help the company earn extra profit while the customers can have a special discount in their home. Furthermore, the advertisers can get a direct way to promote their products.
It is undoubtedly that the Internet has already been one of the medium of spreading information. But whether the Internet brings good effects or bad impacts solely depends on how the surfers use it. Perhaps the most effective way to stop people from breaking the law is that copyright owners switch the way to sell their products, but not increasing the risk being prosecuted. If the risk being prosecuted increases, people may continue download the entertainment, but not buying your works. At last, the company will be suffered.
