A comparison of Regular DVDs vs Downloading movies.

Selling movies only on DVDs is not always a possible for many movie studios. As a solution to this dilemma, many movie studios have decided to utilize the Internet by allowing users to download full length movies at a fee that is lower than DVDs. This process eliminates the need for excessive storage of physical DVDs and the costs of continually inventorying quantities of excess DVD inventories. This also opens up movies to a much wider audience serving as a beneficial method of distribution for many studios.

The process of downloading movies allows users an opportunity for savings on the compilation of vast movie collections for movie buffs. Downloading movies also allows users the ability to more easily organize their collections in a digital archive. The downloading of movies is also cheaper than renting movies in most cases. The fees for downloading movies can range from two to five dollars and sometimes are even cheaper when users take part in memberships for certain web sites.

There are several advantages of downloading movies that should be addressed. First, we have already addressed the price of downloaded movies. They are much cheaper than renting or buying DVDs. Second, downloaded movie are of the same quality of movies as regular DVDs. By purchasing a movie on line, you are not loosing quality because it is the same movie as when you watch a regular DVD. Some web sites provide you with software to download movies directly onto a DVD instead of storing the movie on your computer which begins to take up hard disk space after repeated movie downloads on to your computer.

Many people are familiar with torrent web sites that allow users to download movies from other users. These are organized in a very haphazard way so that users have difficulty finding the movies that they desire. These sites have also been known to have hidden viruses and malicious software embedded in some of the files that are downloaded from their sites. Legal sites, on the other hand, offer movies in an organized manner that allows users an easy way to find the movies they desire, and their movies are scanned to ensure there is less of a chance for potentially harmful scripts to be hidden in their files.

The downloading of movies offers several advantages to movie collectors over traditional DVD purchases and rentals. The cost savings is a definite advantage, and security in using legal websites takes away the worries of getting viruses and malicious scripts in your downloads. Potential for the use of the Internet in the distribution of movies is almost limitless.
