Spam Attacks: 10 Tips to Reduce Them

“Time is money.” Spams steal our time, then spams cost money. Can we eliminate or reduce their attacks?

The spams can be presented in different ways: emails, social networks, forums, blogs and messenger. You can find many online tips for avoiding many spams. Here, some advices easy to follow:

  1. Have two business cards. You should have two cards, one for your commercial or personal email and another one with a free account, like Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. When you attend to a trade fair, convention or any event with many vendors you use the card with your free e-mail account, to avoid vendors spam to your personal and commercial e-mails.
  2. Use two mail accounts. One called non-reply@domain.com. You use this account to send group of e-mails.  Write a note at the bottom of every mail such as:
    “This is a non-reply e-mail. For responses write to m a r y a n y @ d o m a i n . c o m”.
    If you write spaces between letter in the email is difficult for spammer machines to guess your email, but humans can do it. You can replace “@”for the word “at”. Instead of do that you can include your e-mail as an image. Block this account to receive e-mails.
  3. Do not open strange emails or emails that you know to be spams. Erase it without opening.
  4. If you by accident open a spam. Do not click on the links.
  5. If you have been received many e-mails of a social networking site. Change the setting for not receiving e-mails. You can do the same for forums sites. Avoid display your e-mail in a social network. Use the social network tools for communicate with others.
  6. Do not give your e-mail to people that you met in a chat room that you only see nicknames.
  7. Be careful when you use Internet cafes. Make sure that you log out all your accounts before you leave.
  8. You can use a disposal email like Guerrilla Mail and Mail Moat.
  9. Be careful when you need to fill form in the Internet, like application for a job. Many spammers use this sites to get email accounts.
  10. Use only serious and known websites. If you “google” your full name you can find that your resume is on sale as a part of a database.

If are receiving so many spams, you should consider to change you email account. Remember you cannot eliminate spams, you only  reduce spams attacks and do not spam others.
