Most articles on the internet allow readers to provide instantaneous reactions with the help of comments. It allows readers from all over the world to express their opinions on an article even years after the article was first published on the net. Comments also help the author of the article to understand how his/her readers feel about it. Positive feedback often provides a lot of encouragement to authors especially those who are new to the world of online writing. Constructive criticism can also help authors to polish their craft and improve their skill. Insightful and thought provoking comments can make both the readers as well as the author, think.

Comments are an important way to gauge the readers’ feelings about the article. Often readers provide additional information related to the article’s topic. Authors can also take part in the comments thread and post replies to the different views posted there. This often leads to an engrossing exchange of views, thoughts and ideas between the author and his/her readers and also between the readers themselves.

When we are commenting on an article, it is important to keep a few things in mind.

Firstly, our comments should state what we think of that article and why. Instead of posting a ‘great’ or ‘not good’ it might be a better idea to explain why we thought the article was great or why we did not like it.

Secondly, if we know some more information about the topic that the article addresses, it might be a good idea to share our knowledge in the comment that we post.

Thirdly, we should make sure that our comments do not seem like spam or abuse.

Often, people post spam in the comments section. This can be pretty annoying to the author and the readers. Most sites have a ‘report abuse’ button to ensure that spam is deleted.
