A search engine with humor that should be used with class.

Flipping through Digg the other night, I ran across something I thought was pretty funny. I do have a sense of humor as does any human being, so I thought to give it a try. I was unaware that Google had more then one browser, and learned this information the other evening while Digging articles of others. I am a firm believer to become a good member of Digg, not only to Digg your own articles but to Digg others.

This brings me to Mystery Google. A browser made as a joke, but does have the copyright symbol of Google on the bottom of page. You are viewing a search from the previous person searching. I thought why not give it a try and have a good laugh. I am doing some research on emotional abuse caused by people on the internet, so that is what I placed inside the search bar. What came up was a listing of sites based on sex. Please be cautious of what you might be viewing using Mystery Google, and should only be used if you are an adult. Nothing can be guaranteed of what is going to come up, since it is a Mystery.

I continued on after that first initial search hoping something more amusing might come up, and it did. In the search bar it said “I am only using this to see what sort of lame search is going to come up next.” I must admit it was quite the laugh I had on this end, because of the search I had found was quite lame. Here you can have a lasting effect on the next person to read it, and they decide to choose a sexual topic.

Some interesting ideas for Mystery Google would be as follows.

Send them a greeting of good health

Your own website to make a friend or even a new viewer.

Some powerful message of poverty or famine.

Give someone a lift of encouragement.

Tell them a good and clean joke.

Search for something enlightening about friendship, love or family values.

Get creative and look up something intelligent, maybe a dictionary, or quote of Einstein.

I found the idea was quite unique, but you have to be careful who is using it and viewing it. Bad apples fall from every tree, and I most certainly had a taste of that the other night while using it. I was very disappointed that some did not see that young people could have access to that browser. Some will try to ruin the experience for others, by placing obscene ideas, gestures, or comments in the search box. Another option Google could consider is adding a filter to prevent them from coming up.

Mystery Google is for a mature audience only for the mean time.

Hello my fellow readers!

I was looking on the internet today and I was wondering if I would find anything about me on Google and I DID!!! I was so happy because my twitter, website, and the articles from Triond were on Google!

I just started reading all of my stuff like I’ve never read my work before lol. I bet everyone from Triond is on Google but I would have never thought in a million years that I would be up there. It seems so false. Have you looked up your articles in major search engines? You should and you may have your work up there too.

Now I feel like I am making moves (slowly but surely). It’s so funny to me though.

I have always wanted to say this to someone “Google me bitch” lol.

(Not to anyone who reads my work but to one of my haters who always have something negative to say to me).

I just wanted to say I made it on Google now go ahead and check to see if your work is up there! Then you can say “Google me baby” lol.

Thank you for reading!!!

What can a sitemap be useful for? Actually, for two kinds of readers: Human beings and search engines.
A good sitemap allows your visitors find quicker and easier the information they’re searching for and, at the same time, helps the search engines to crawl your website more rapidly.

Here’s one thing you should notice: your visitors don’t browse your site the same way Google crawls it. In fact, while the search engine spiders search for codes to crawl, they read words printed on web-pages.
Actually, to maximize your results, you need two different kinds of sitemaps, one for each eye: a sitemap page, exclusively for your visitors to browse and a sitemap file in xml format, available for the search engines.

Read on and you’ll learn how to create both of them and what you should do with them to get the best SEO results.

Sitemap for SEO
Creating a sitemap for the search engines is very straightforward, especially if the site we are talking about is a Wordpress Blog. Here are two easy ways you can create it.

1) Wordpress, as an open source project, has got Thousands of plugins and add-ons. One of these is the sitemap plugin, which automatically updates the sitemap of your website each time you publish a new post. Download it, install it and activate it and it will do it on autopilot every time.

2) An alternative manual way to do the job is actually creating your sitemap using free web-based tools, like www.xml-sitemaps.com. Give it the url of your website and it will create you the sitemap in xml and html format, both ready to use.

Once you’ve got your sitemap, you can upload it via FTP on the root directory of your website.

Sitemap for human visitors
We just said that the www.xml-sitemaps.com tool gives you the map in html format too. You can take that file, adapt it with an HTML editor in order to conform it to the standard graphics of your website and upload it via FTP.
Actually, there’s a more Sophisticated way to do it, converting the xml file to html, but to do this you need detailed java language knowledge, or you could outsource the conversion to a freelance coder. I strongly suggest you to go for the first option.

More tips
As for the HTML map, Don’t forget to check it before uploading it. The creator generates the map following the crawling instructions you give the search spiders in your robot.txt file. If you haven’t done it or your file is not updated, you may list pages you wouldn’t want to, like download pages for your paid products.

If you want to validate the XML prior to uploading to the search engines (useful if you have made any manual adjustments), use the XML validator (http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html) where you can put in the URL of your sitemap and check its conformity to the current standard.

Niche Keyword Research techniques and earn more more money and visitors.

I’m writing this post as a beginner’s guide to Niche Keyword Research. If you’re not a beginner, this probably isn’t the right guide for you (so no groans please), but it might be a nice refresher.

NICHE:

Macro niches- These are niches that are broad and usually VERY difficult to dominate. Examples: Health, Beauty, Finances, Real Estate, etc

Because they are such broad terms, I never bother with them.

Micro Niches- These are where the money is for most Im’ers. (I’ll stick with the “health” macro through this entire guide as an example.) A good example would be “dieting” or “weight loss” or “vitamins”. Just think of micro niches as sub-categories.

There are some amazing golden micro niches, but at the same time, many of these micro niches may still be too broad.

Double Micro Niche- This is taking it one step further… Something like “low carb diet” or “fat burning foods” or “lose weight naturally”…

Going with niches like these will cut your competition considerably and you will never run out of opportunities!

Five main things to take into consideration when you are choosing your keyword are: interest, expertise, competition, desire, and profit.

1) Interest- If you find the niche boring, why would you want to spend your time marketing it?

2) Expertise- If you don’t know anything about the niche, why would you bother with it? Unless you want to look at is as a learning experience and something you WANT to know about.

3) Competition- Obviously, less competition = more money for you! This is a crutial step and if you don’t take the time to do your research properly here, you will regret it.

4) Desire- Make sure that it is something people want! If there is no desire for a product, then there is no money to be made.

5) Profit- This is the best part! You want to make sure that there is money to be made in your niche. The first obvious thing to check is that there is an affiliate program or you have the ability to buid a product around it.

thanks for reading and your comments are welcome.

Tools and techniques for searching good keywords.

Google Adwords Tool – Almost always your best first step.

WordTracker. Another great tool, though not nearly as exhaustive as google.

SEOBook has an amazing tool that give you a huge amount of tools to work with. It is almost a one stop keyword tool and definitely worth the time to look over.

Blogs and Forums- Visit blogs and forums by searching in google “blog + niche” or “forum + niche”. It’s a great way to get inside your target audience’s head and figure out what they need/want and also can be a great way to research content.

KEYWORDS

So by now you should have a good broad list to go from. I like lists of at least 200 keywords. Out of that you should get at least 25 quality low-competition keywords to work with.

Using WordTracker or SEOBook Keyword tool, try and narrow your list down to keywords getting a daily search that is decent. If your keyword has 300 or more daily searches, it probably has some stiff competition… I like to stay around 100 searches per day. Though if you are brand new to the business, 50 per day will be much easier for you to dominate. That means you only need 7 quality keywords to be dominating 10,000 searches per month!

As for the best way to check out your competition… It’s easier than you think! Just to do a simple search. Use: allintitle:”keyword” in the google search bar to find out. This search will yield specific results that will show you your TRUE competition…. not just who used the keyword in their content. I never use keywords that have more than 50,000 websites as competition… Again, if you’re starting out… cut that number in half.

Remember earlier when I said that you needed to check out your competition? Well this is the perfect opportunity to do so…. If your “allintitle” search revealed that the first few pages are full of high PR sites, just walk away. If the search is filled with less than PR3 sites, dominate away!

The trick to keywords is really just making it easy for you in the long run. Once you’ve got the experience under your belt you can start going for the more competitive niches and scale your operation up

Use Google custom search to make your own search engine with all those saved up links.

Google has many wonderful apps and the ability to make your own search engine is very handy. You will need a Google account to get started, of course. Then go to http://www.google.com/coop/cse/ or click on the My Account link in the upper right of the page and navigate to Google custom search. Click the link and you will see the Create a Custom Search Button. Click on that button.

Now your page has boxes where you name your search engine, give it a description, select the language you want it in, choose either Only sites I select or The entire web, but emphasize sites I select for custom search (I use the Only sites I select), type or paste in your sites, and choose Standard edition for the free one. Wa-La! click next, and try out your new search engine.

To add sites or edit the engine, just sign in, and got to the Google custom search as in the first paragraph, and click the control panel or the search engine link. This is a great way to put together all those websites you’ve been saving up. Then you can clear your favorites folder and start fresh while still having your old sites in a nice search engine.

Image via Wikipedia

And if I did it you can do it too.

High search engine ranking is what all of us who are trying to succeed at writing on the internet are trying to accomplish. The reason being, a high search engine ranking pretty much guarantees that you article is going to get a lot of page views simply because it is one of the first four to ten articles that someone searching the web will see.

High search engine ranking says a lot to the person viewing the web page.

It says that you have written about a popular subject - This is exactly what you want to do. Popular subjects get a lot of attention. Personal stories can have appeal if they are about something that a lot of people are interested in or doing themselves.

It says that you have written your title well – I discussed this in a previous article. Writing a good title (headline) is very important. In writing your title, you want to get to the subject that you are writing about as soon as possible. You should try to achieve this in at least three to four words. Sometimes it’s not easy but you should try nonetheless.

It means that you have sufficiently tagged your article- Tagging your article is as important, and maybe more important, as writing a good title. If youhave tagged your article properly along with the other things mentioned here, you should see a good number of “hits” to your article. Every time someone types a word or phrase into a search, a listing of articles with that word or phrase shows up on the search page. If your article has an abundance of search phrases and words in them, the search engine will show your article. The more of them your article has, the higher your article’s search ranking will be.

It says that you have gotten a lot of page views – This may sound like double-talk but it’s true. If your title and popular subject got you a high search engine ranking, then by default, your high ranking will get you a lot of page views. I forget what the exact percentage is but somewhere in the neighborhood of 70% to 80% of web page clicks are done on the first four to five web sites listed on a search engine page. I may be off a little but not much.

It says that the search engine has confidence in and approves of what you wrote – You better believe, if a search engine gave you a high ranking, they have read over your article with a fine tooth comb. Their reputation is on the line. Page views and clicks mean money to them just like it does to you. You can bet they are not going to put their name and reputation behind content that makes them look bad or unprofessional.

It says that you’re a better writer than you thought you were – Having a high search engine ranking means that you have impressed a major corporation (because that’s exactly what they are) to put their name behind yours.

Pretty impressive.

By the way, to find me at number four Google search “Michael Jackson Molest Children”

A discussion of the top three search engines, Google, Yahoo!, and Bing.

We all have our own way of searching for the information and sites which we are looking for. There are many search engines out there, but the top three, Google, Yahoo!, and Bing, are used to do a HUGE majority of all searches of the internet. The web crawlers of these engines are trusted by more people to gather information about the things that are most important to the users of the internet than all others. Actually, Google is used by more than 70% of all searches. Yahoo and Bing are used more than 80% of the time which Google isn’t used. Obviously, these three search engines are the most important to the users of the internet.

Image via Wikipedia

First of all, we will discuss Google. “Google it” has become one of the most used phrases to answer someone when they have an information question about nearly anything. You never hear someone say, “Yahoo it,” or “Bing it.” First of all, they don’t ring in the ears as well as “Google it” and before the advent of Bing, there was undoubtedly no better way than Google to search for the information one needed. Their “web crawlers” are supposedly the best at finding and indexing information on the web. Keyword tracking programs they use to look for new information has also been the best out there. The problem with a search engine like Google is that a start-up on the web may have to wait months and months to get indexed by Google unless they use sneaky keyword tactics or pay for the submission process. The engine is sooo busy that there is little room for anyone new to the internet to break in and become well know with out a ton of hard work and hundreds, even thousands of hours parading your information to the masses of the social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Redditt, Digg, and Stumbleupon.

Next, I will discuss Yahoo. Yahoo is the second most used search engine, although only making up about 17% of all searches done on the internet. Also, I’ve been told that Yahoo’s search engine was the basis of design for Google’s engine. So why would Google prevail if Yahoo was the founding basis of the two’s design theories? I would say that “Google it” sounds better when one wants to find something they are looking for. Yahoo simply didn’t have the catch phrase that made people want to use it like they would to use Google. “Yahoooooo-oo!” just doesn’t stack up against “Google it.” Yahoo’s search engine design kept them at the top, but Google’s apps hoisted them up to the pedestal where they have reigned ever since.

Now there is a new player, well, a redesigned, renamed player in the biz. Bing. Sounds like an idea just popped into your head…BING! This new design has a few neat features to add to the search scene. First, you will notice the little balloon that pops up to the right when you scroll over the headline of the index line you are looking at. This is kind of nice, but also can very annoying. You think you are going to get a little bit more of the site in this balloon, but you might be getting a comment or something that seems completely irrelevant to the site which you are researching. I am sure the bugs will be worked out soon, but for now I am on the fence with the new-fangled feature. Bing also is supposed to be a “decision engine” as for now I no intention on letting a search engine make my decisions for me. I like the fact that what is available to me makes up the choices I have. I do not want a computer program learning my behavior and telling me what to see. Stumbleupon has already taken up that spot and I use it only to find new stuff that is cool, not to make my decisions for me.

All in all, I use Yahoo and Google to find the things I want and have recently become a Wikipedia user. The rest pale in comparison to these. That is my opinion, but most of the rest of the world agrees. The good thing with our world here in the U.S. is that you can decide for yourself! Yahooooo!
