Used effectively, pictures can serve a great purpose.

Many of us here take special pains to search the internet and dig out eye-catching pictures to go with their stories. But what purpose do these pictures serve?

The visual impact of a picture cannot be under-estimated. Pictures tell their own tale, and one picture can tell it more eloquently and powerfully than even the best written thousand-worded essay. Pictures are emotive. By seeking, touching and stroking the emotional chord in us, pictures leave a long-lasting impression on our minds.

One of the techniques to enhance readability is to use white space effectively by interspersing short paragraphs – may be just a single line – between long paragraphs. This breaks the monotony of black typefaces. Pictures serve a similar purpose of breaking the monotony of lengthy expositions, make you pause and recapture what you have read.

Pictures can also increase the page worth in Google’s eyes, especially if you follow certain rules like choosing a file name containing key words or phrases, and similarly writing a well-chosen caption or description containing key words.

Yet too many pictures can spoil your literary broth, especially if the pictures you have loaded are not relevant and take away from the theme. They serve to increase the time it takes for the page to load. This can turn away potential readers. More importantly, it can pull down Google ranking. Read Google: Page Speed May Become a Ranking Factor in 2010.

It is really simple to freelance your skills, no matter what they are.

If you are good at repairing vehicles, detailing and cleaning them, or even giving them an engine tune up there are lots of opportunities out there for you to make extra money, no matter where you live. In fact, the information here could be relevant to just about any skill you might have.

In the current economic climate there are people who are skilled in particular trades but are no longer employed in their particular field of expertise. They may be skilled motor engineers, specialists in car electrics or have any number of skills. This is where selling automotive services on a freelance basis makes sense. If you have a skill in the automotive service field you can sell yourself and your skills on sites like Craigslist and Gumtree which will both list you for free.

The whole thing is simplicity itself and all you have to do is register with the sites and set up your profile. Make sure you sell your skills and do not leave any out so that prospective buyers will know just how good you are. There are lots of people in your area who need your expertise and these people can soon be your customers, once they know you are there. However, you might not be restricted to your local geographical area. Sites like getafreelancer.com and ifreelance.com are excellent because they take care of everything including taking payment.

Say, for example, that you are a real motorcycle enthusiast and know all about classic Harley Davidson’s, BSA or Norton bikes. You may have a wealth of knowledge that someone from another area might be willing to pay for. So you can freelance both your skills in the automotive services field and your expertise.

If you are into car rental you could sell your service on an hourly freelance basis, or even offer to chauffer drive from airports, train stations and bus depots. There are many ways to cash in on your talents.

On the other hand if you live in a particular area and require automotive services of any kind, it will usually work out much cheaper to find a freelancer and negotiate a price that to try to deal with big garages and repair companies. Craigslist and net4manpower.com are both good for this as they list freelancers who work in automotive services and other areas and let you see at a glance what their particular expertise is, what they are likely to charge and where they are located. You can also read feedback from others who have hired them, by way of reference.

So, if you have these skills or any others listed and join the freelancer sites because it costs you nothing and could soon make you some extra money.

Clickbank affiliate marketers can't make any profits unless they tap into this secret...

Clickbank has become the default affiliate network for successful affiliate marketers. It is not that Clickbank products pay as much as 75% in affiliate commissions. It is because, Clickbank.com sells hope. And, everyone buys hope.

The emotions attached behind hope are extremely powerful. People hope the things they see, hear and think are true. They hope against the obvious. They hope against everything they know true. People hope they can:

- Make money with little effort
- Lose weight without raising a finger
- Repair credit score in a week

They also hope several hundred other things. Clickbank has thousands of information products, e-books and software that promise to deliver the hopes of the people.

No wonder, the affiliate links are called hoplinks, affiliate feeds hopfeeds and more. There is hope everywhere. People click on these hope-filled links, to fill the bank accounts of merchants and the affiliate marketers who promote them.

It is the promise of hope that has made Clickbank so successful. The information products, ebooks and software products have several advantages over material products. The merchants can claim their products are worth several times they actually are.

When something goes wrong, most of the buyers think it is their fault. And, they do not press for a refund of their money.

The funniest thing is, the buyers buy similar products. The pathetically overweight moms buy a diet plan or exercise plan e-book. They read it for a day or two. Then they forget they have bought the book. After many weeks, they remember they have downloaded some costly e-books. They can’t find them in their computer. Now, they start their quest for yet another break-through product.

This is how hope works. Although the buyers know the answers, they hope some ‘experts’ will solve their problems. They hope for some magic cure for their conditions.

Thus, Clickbank marketers are merchants of hope. Merchants who sell hope do receive checks with huge affiliate commissions. Clickbank has thousands of ways to sell this hope. It makes Clickbank.com the most recognized force in affiliate marketing scene.

A small website with highly targeted content can make more affiliate sales than a mega site. Have a few mini-sites and you will open the floodgates of affiliate commissions.

Small is beautiful. So they say. When it comes to affiliate marketing, small is profitable too. It is tempting to create an Amazon sized website to sell everything that you can possibly sell. That strategy works. It is not for the beginner affiliate marketer. A micro-niche site works better for them.

What is a Micro Site?

A micro site has fewer than 25 pages. It concentrates on a micro-niche. It sells a specific product or products in a specific category. For example, an insurance website can concentrate on a sub-niche like auto-insurance. It works better than pre-selling hundreds of insurance products from the same website.

Have a micro-website each for auto-insurance, life insurance, homeowners insurance and the different categories. You can also interlink all these sites. This way, you can win the customer who has been looking for homeowner insurance, while not missing the ones looking for auto-insurance.

The micro-site gives the impression that the site focuses on one thing only. It is a good thing for an affiliate website. People can read information on specific niche topics. You can then direct the visitors to the merchant site, which gives you an affiliate commission for referring customers to their sites.

Create Content that Sells

Have a few articles that effectively pre-sell the products you sell as an affiliate. Place affiliate links right in the article or just below it. Several dozens of experiments have proved that content links convert the best. Thus, it pays to create high quality content. Hire me if you are too lazy to write an article. Hire a professional writer to do the writing for you.

You can also paste banner ads or image ads on the header, sidebar or right inside the content space.

Use Adwords to Send Traffic to Your Micro-Sites

Setting up a micro-site is only half the story. The other half is driving targeted traffic to your site. The best tool you have is Google™ Adwords™. You can send laser-target visitors to your site by choosing ‘exact’ or ‘phrase’ keywords for your ad campaigns.

The visitors will be looking for something very specific. Here is an extension of the insurance niche websites. People will be searching for ‘auto insurance’ or ‘homeowner insurance in California’. Targeting these keyword phrases give better results than bidding on every keyword related to insurance. You keep your costs down, while sharply targeting the audience that will make you affiliate commissions.

Once you find the topic is profitable, you can diversify your traffic strategy. SEO, article marketing, blogging, etc also can send traffic to your sites. However, when you need results very fast, nothing beats Adwords.

Now you have the key to affiliate marketing success. Create a series of micro-sites. Use Adwords to steal the traffic to your sites. This way, you will not care if one or more websites don’t make money. There will always be a few dozen websites to rake in the affiliate commissions.

Earning some extra money from a blog takes time but it can be done, even by a beginner.

Setting up a blog is very easy, even if you have never done anything like that before. First you need to get yourself organised and decide what you want to blog about and where you want to host your blog.

There are lots of options for hosting including Typepad, Wordpress and Blogger. I like Wordpress because it has more options and gadgets than the others, but it does not allow you to monetize your blog, so if you want to make money via your blog it is not the place to start.

The easiest place to start is Blogger. It is free and you get access to free software which will help you build your blog by simply pushing buttons. If you are a bit more advance in your knowledge of the internet you will be able to add html code and tweak things quite a lot, but if you can’t do this, it doesn’t matter.

Once you have decided on your blogging platform, you need a topic for your blog. Is there something that interests you? Do you have a favourite place to blog about? A sport? A hobby? Or even an idea?

Try to think of something that will give your blog its own identity.

You can add links to your writing, other blogs and other people’s websites. The more there is to attract visitors the better. You need to keep it interesting because the concentration span of the average internet surfer is very short. You want them to stay for at least a few minutes on your blog.

Okay, now you are ready to start. Go to Blogger.com and set up your blog. You will see lots of templates to choose from. Just select the one you like and you can make changes later if you want to. Once your blog is set up you need to start posting on it. Some bloggers say that you only need 100 words per post but others say you need longer pillar posts to give the search engines something to get hold of.

After all, it’s no use having a blog if you have no traffic. I tend to use a mixture of short posts and longer ones depending on how interesting I find the topic, or the time I have available.

Once you have half a dozen, or so posts, you can start thinking about getting yourself some readers. The easiest way to do this is to read other blogs, sign up to ‘follow’ them (a Blogger feature) and they will return the favour. Apply to join Blogcatalog and get involved in the community so that people will visit your blog. Don’t forget to tell everybody and add a link to your blog to your email.

Then you might consider joining something like Entrecard which will bring you visitors, or Linkreferral. I use these but I almost run Adgitize advertising which pays me a small monthly fee and I buy advertising on the Adgitize system. It is very cheap and brings lots of traffic. I get some new readers from this so it is well worth it.

There are lots of other ways to promote your blog but these are the things that have worked for me. Take a look and see what else brings in visitors and how it can all work No Way To Blog

If you want to monetize your blog you can use Adsense but it is very slow and the pennies only just tick over, even if you do have thirty thousand visitors a day. I would also recommend Adgitize because it pays out every month if you earn at least $10. Paid posts also earn money but your blog needs to be established before you will be offered these. Once you have a good solid blog with lots of posts, you should apply for your blog to be added by the various pay to post companies which you will find easily via Google.

You can also run private advertisements at a monthly fee but you need to get out there and ask for these. They do just come to you on occasion but it usually takes work to get them.

Once you have done all this you must keep posting and keep reading other people’s blogs and commenting, so that you are building your own blog all the time. It will eventually work if you keep going.

Why do you want to make a million dollars? Do you even know?

This article will be short, but it may be the best thing you read this year. Think about it before you go further in your quest for internet riches.

So you want to make a million dollars on the internet? Fine. But I do have a question for you that you’ll need to answer first.

Why?

Why $1 million? Why not $850,000 or $600,000 or even $2 million? Why do you want to make $1 million? Is it a magical number that will give you happiness? Is it the figure you’ve always dreamed of earning? Why $1 million?

Answering that question is important because it deals with motivation. For instance, if you only earned $100,000, would that be enough? If you only earned $52,000 – $1000 for each week of the year, would that be enough? What is your motivation for earning $1 million?

The eccentric oil mogul billionaire J. Paul Getty was once asked, “how much money is enough for you?”

His response is chilling. Remember he was a billionaire when there were very few in the entire world.

“A little more,” said Getty.

For billionaire J. Paul Getty, having his billions wasn’t enough; he wanted more.

You want to retire. Fine. Then what?

You want to travel. Fine. Then what?

You want to spend tons of time with your kids. Fine. What will you say when they ask you what you do for a living because their friends have asked them?

You want to do what you want. Fine. Look, though, at our brilliant examples of wealth and fame in Hollywood. Look at their lives, their marriages, their relationships. How many of them are genuinely happy? 90%? Highly unlikely. 50%? Doubtful. I’m guessing – and it’s only based on what I see and hear from that part of the country – the figure is closer to 20% if that. Twenty percent of those who have wealthy out there are happy and satisfied. Even if the number is closer to 50%, which I don’t believe for a second it is, that’s still a high number of dissatisfied millionaires.

Or perhaps you just want to be satisfied. Fine. No arguments here. But let me ask you this, are you satisfied with your life at $30,000 or $50,000 a year? If not, why not?

So, again, why do you want to make $1 million? Answering that question – stepping back and seriously addressing it – could unlock mysteries hidden deep within. It could save you time and emotional energy, and probably $47 each time you purchase a new program that will usher you into the rank of the $1 million earners.

There's a really logical reason you're not making money on the internet.

So this online marketing has gotten you down. You read about all the ways that others are making mints from the internet and they’ll certainly tell you how to do it too, if you’ll only send them a calculated $47. You won’t even have to wait for the mail because it’ll be in your inbox even before you go to bed that evening.

Or how about this one: you see the million ads on Twitter for teeth whiteners, internet riches, becoming rich through the latest and greatest Forex program, how to gain a thousand more followers a day, or even how to tap into Donald Trump’s new internet millions scheme. You’ve clicked on them all and dabbled with them: GoogleCash, Google Adwords, Made for Adsense, affiliate programs and marketing, article marketing to promote your affiliate programs, and the absolute latest niche or mini-niche marketing. That’s all that came to me as I typed. Do a search on blog and WordPress riches and see just about a few million sites that have focused on those two areas alone.

You’re exhausted from all the things you’ve tried, and your bank or paypal account has not reflected all the time and energy you’ve put into it. That’s a gross understatement. You want to give up. You just want to forget the internet marketing thing ever happened and pack it up, because there are just a bunch of schemers and dreamers on the internet. It doesn’t help that all of those programs tell you that 95% of the programs out there in that niche don’t work because [fill in the blank].

Well, they’re right.

They are absolutely right in that there is money to be made on the internet. People are doing it every day. But here’s what you need to do: focus. If you hop around from program to program to marketing guru to marketing guru you probably won’t make a ton of money. What many of them are not telling you is that, while they may say that it took them 3 months (or whatever the latest length of time on the annoying popup ad) to make those riches, they had to have three years of trial and error to get to where they are! Of course, on occasion you will meet someone who really didn’t know what they were doing and hit it big. It does happen but I suspect they are the exception to the rule.

The fact that they are taking your money to teach you things you can learn online for free is evidence that you can make money online! They’re makiing money with YOUR money! But I think they are also banking on you not following through with their program. It doesn’t matter much to them whether you do or not; they already have your money and your email address, and will market to you again and again with the newest program they’ve created until you put a stop to it

Again the key word is focus. If you played out one of these programs for a full year, you will make money, perhaps not as much as the teacher but you will make money. It’s like we have attention deficit disorder on the internet. This program isn’t working after a week, so let me try that one (sound familiar). So many things fly past us and we want to capture it all.

Listen, if you do anything in life for an hour a day every day for years and years, you will get good at it. I learned that from a man who spent nine years bowling two or three games every night. He was ready to turn pro but decided against it (his reasoning was as complex as the future wife who told him not to!), but the fact that he could have turned pro was his point. He had plenty of opportunity to hone his skill night after night. Think Bill Murray in Groundhog Day!

So it is with internet marketing. Stick to one thing until it doesn’t work any longer. Period. I know you don’t like that answer but it’s good advice. Don’t go from program to program. That’s not the recipe to success at all. Focus. Hone in. Test. Refocus.

How it's really done.

Much has been written about how to make individual articles do well. One need only to type ‘making money’ into the explore section on Triond, and you will be served a nearly endless (and, in most cases, useless) articles giving tips on exactly this. And while there is a good deal of excitement to be found in making the hot content list, and watching the initial wave of views on a successful article, the truth is that if you really are here to make money, these aren’t the things you should concern yourself with.

Some facts that need to be considered:

I do several Sports series articles. They do extremely well, with views numbering in the tens of thousands. And they are what I call ‘flash pieces’; in other words, they do very well for a very short period of time, but burn out quickly. Guaranteed Picks for NFL Week 7 looks great for a while; it will sit on the hot content list for a few days, but as soon as week 8 arrives, this article is dead.

Which brings me to my first point; articles must be written with longevity in mind.

Hairless Cats, Feline Humor, and Why I Love My Stupid Dog
Women Who Rock: Oh, How We Love It Dirty
13 Songs in The Key of Angry
11 Movies That Will Make a Grown Man Cry
Memory Boxes: A Way to Preserve Your Kid’s Childhood

The titles tell you all you need to know here. These are articles that have no time limit; they will be as relevant in two years as they are today. And as such, if promoted properly (we’ll get to that) they will continue to attract views. There are two types of titles that work well for articles such as these; tongue in cheek (which, as you can see I use at times) or straight forward. If you are just starting, stick with straight forward. An article about changing the oil on your car should probably be called “How to Change the Oil In Your Car.”

Make sure you make your articles clear and concise. Use spell check. The more user friendly it is, the more it will be used.

Promoting the ‘Big Hit’ articles is very time consuming. As most of us have jobs, families, and lives, there is only so much time left for writing and promoting. So keep it simple. The two most important aspects of your finished articles are using good keywords and getting them submitted to search engines like Yahoo and Google. For the latter I recommend Submit Express, a free service that will plug you in to more than 20 of them in moments. (That tip came from Louie Jerome, many thanks). Don’t waste your time with the likes of Digg and Reddit for this type of writing.

As far as key words (tags), be creative. I ask myself this question: “If I were googling ??????, what would I type in? Better too many than not enough. Look at other articles on similar subjects online to find ideas. Remember, these words are the magnets that draw those views.

Keep an idea book. I keep it in the notes on my phone. If you have an idea for an article, jot it down. Ever had an idea for an article, forgotten it, and seen down the road that someone else did it?

Write often. This is where the silly articles about so many views per day come in to play. The five articles listed above average anywhere from 50-100 views per day. High end, that’s a nickel or a dime a day. But for that one animal article, I will make that nickel a day every day. It doesn’t sound like much, but that nickel a day is $1.50 a month. 100 of those, and I’m generating $150.00 a month. Not every article will do that. Some may only get you 10 hits a day, but it still adds up.

Don’t publish crap. Take the time to do your research. Garbage has a tendency of sinking to the bottom, and the equation goes both ways… people don’t use garbage again.

Finally, link your articles to other relevant articles.

Use other sites where you can recycle your works. Bukisa, Redgage, and Shetoldme are good examples. This gives you the chance to make the same pennies again, and fits in because it takes only moments.

To summarize:

Write articles that are informative and have no expiration date.

Give it attractive tags

Use a title that will attract the type of attention you want

Submit it to search engines

If you can manage an article a day, and it gets 10 views a day, in a year you have 300+ articles. even if each one earned just a penny a day, you’d be looking at $3.00 a day. That’s 90 bucks a month. Do the math.

So if you really are here for the money, don’t waste time trying to reach the hot content list; some of Triond’s most lucrative earners have never seen it. True money making here is about longevity.

There are millions of dollars exchanged online every week. Here's why you won't get your hands on any of it.

You can’t throw a virtual stick online without hitting a site that guarantees enormous payouts with little or no effort on your part. Despite your better judgment, these ideas seem enticing. After all, who wouldn’t like to make thousands of dollars a day by simply posting ads online or recruiting a few strangers into your ‘down-line?’ The Internet gurus would have you believe that you can get rich online. Here are the reasons why you won’t.

You don’t have the technical skills. Moneymaking sites are carefully designed to run smoothly. The sites must be coded to accept user input, store information, check credit, verify shipping and tabulate many statistics that the customer does not see. You need an extensive knowledge of HTML, Flash and scripting programs to make a professional site.

You don’t have a real product. The most monetarily successful product is one that is tangible. Sure, you may manage to sell a few folks a copy of your e-book, but the average consumer would rather have something in hand in exchange for their hard-earned money. ‘Advertising revenue sharing’ and ‘a position in our matrix’ doesn’t cut it.

You aren’t willing to put in the time. Any legitimate business requires hours of work. Notice the sites that are successes online. Do you think that Amazon.com spent an hour throwing together its website? How about Yahoo? Hundreds of programming, design and content hours were spent making these and other sites profitable.

Your expectations are too high. If you buy into the hype that get-rich-quick sites are selling, you will be very disappointed by your own figures. Keep in mind that if one person manages through some amazing fluke to have one $1000 day with the product, the site can forever legally trumpet the headline, “Make $1000 a Day!” You won’t be the fluke.

You don’t have a unique product. The huge successes in any business are companies or individuals who create a new product that is not being offered by anyone else in the market. Being the 5000th person to sell the same tired e-book will certainly not distinguish you in the Internet marketplace, nor will it guarantee riches.

You are participating in an MLM or pyramid scheme. Do you personally know anyone who became a millionaire in an MLM? I don’t mean the proverbial friend-of-my-cousin’s-friend. If MLM isn’t making millionaires down the block from you, why would they be any more successful online?

You don’t have a sustainable business model. In other words, you need to know how the money is made and how it is distributed. Too many sites claim to make piles of money for you, but they become mysterious and vague when you ask direct questions about where this amazing cash flow comes from. Money comes from two sources. Either someone is buying a tangible product or service or someone is being swindled. If a site can’t explain in basic terms precisely what product is being sold and why they would want to share their profits with you, steer clear.

You believe the Internet ‘opportunity’ sales hype. When greed kicks in, good sense usually takes a back seat. This is why get-rich sites show photographs of money, mansions, tropical vacations and hot cars on their homepages. They want to start your millionaire daydreams going before you think to ask reasonable questions about the nature of the business. A real business is focused on providing value for the customer, knowing that this will ultimately lead to profits.

You are impatient with the process. We have all been spoiled a bit by the speed and efficiency of the Internet. Information, entertainment and help are immediately available on a wide variety of topics. Because of this we expect the Internet to deliver riches just as fast. When the money doesn’t materialize, you will be tempted to move on to the next site. A real business will take time to grow.

You don’t have enough credibility. When you are selling online, you are asking a customer to trust you based on your online persona. If something goes wrong with the transaction, it is difficult or impossible to track down the merchant and demand satisfaction or a refund. This causes an understandable amount of distrust in online dealings. If you are selling an intangible product, this distrust is greatly multiplied. Most adults are wisely gun-shy about spending money on a promise made by a stranger.
