This article is about a very useful Add on for Firefox that will add convenience to your browsing. It is called Tab Mix Plus.
One of the most popular web-browsers on the internet, http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ has the inventive feature of add-ons. These Add-Ons are created by firefox users and are put up on the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ section of the site to be downloaded by other users all over the world.
There are a myriad of Add-Ons to be downloaded and used which is a reason that firefox is so popular, it is extremely customizable.
One particular Add-On that I’m going to speak of, is called https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122
.
This Add-On lets you make multiple customizations of your Options of your tabs. For example, sometimes when you click a link, it opens it up on a new window which by the end of some browsing can end up with several FireFox Windows. With Tab Mix Plus, you go to Tools> Tab Mix Plus Options > then the “Links” section of the options. Find where it says “Enable Single Window Mode.” You check that off, click apply and then you’re set.
Although this may seem like a small, maybe not useful enough to get this add-on, then I’ll give a few more examples.
Another few customizations would be Tools> Tab Mix Plus Options > “Links”, then there are such options as: ” Opening all Javascript pop-ups in tabs rather than a new window, Having a new tab open to your homepage (or any desired page you request) if you open a new tab instead of it being blank. Another one is that, by default, when there is a new tab that you have not looked at, it is red and italics. This is a bit annoying, however it can be changed to your desired needs with Tab Mix Plus.
When browsing, as you get more and more tabs, the tabs get quite small. With Tab Mix Plus you can change some settings to make the tabs appear in multiple rows which is quite a nice little change.
One of the most Useful parts of Tab Mix plus is the following. Go to Tools>Tab Mix Plus> Sessions. Then you uncheck “Use FireFox’s built-in session restore feature.” Instead, you check off “Enable Session Manager,” “Enable Crash Recovery,” then you also check off “Restore” under the “When Browser Starts:” Area inside “Start/Exit.”
Now although that may sound a bit confusing to set up, just go slow and follow directions. If you did this, If you close Firefox and then open it back up again, you should have all the same windows and tabs where you left off when you closed firefox. In my opinion this is something that Firefox should have made as a default. But now you know how to do it yourself.
Although Tab Mix Plus may not seem like it does much, if one goes through all the options and settings, browsing can become much more convenient and easy.
I use it myself and I would suggest everyone else to try it out too.
