Internet Browsers: Firefox

Firefox is an internet browser similar to Internet Explorer, but Firefox has many features that make surfing the internet much faster and easier than Internet Explorer. If you have tried Firefox I suggest that you explore the browser. A few tips to get you started. If you don’t have Firefox go to Mozilla.com for a free download.

crtl + T = will give you a new tab

alt + left arrow = back

crtl + right arrow = forward

ctrl + F = find a word on the page

ctrl + P = print

All of these commands are located in the file, edit, view, history, tools, and help tabs in the top left corner.

Along with being faster than Internet Explorer, Firefox has free downloads of applications called add-ons. These add-ons are located in the tools tab, then click add-ons.

A window will pop-up and click browse all add-ons.

From here read the descriptions of the add-ons and decide whether you would like the download to enhance your internet experience. There are hundreds of add-ons, but here are a few I recommend.

A few of the add-ons that I have downloaded for my firefox are:

Morning Coffee

After opening firefox, this add-on opens the websites that you visit everyday immediately in tabs. You pick the sites that you want to be opened and you can even put different sites on for weekdays and weekends. It saves me a lot of time typing in the URLs.

Xmarks

Tells you five websites that are similar to your current website and gives you site information.

StumbleUpon

Stumbleupon is an application that allows you to “stumble” into a website that you are interested in. Put in your interests and by clicking the stumble button the add-on will send you to a website that you may be interested in based on the information that you gave them.

Smart Bookmarks Bar

Add the websites that you visit frequently to your bookmark bar. All you have to do is click your bookmark and it brings you to the website you wanted to visit. Add more than 30 bookmarks!

These are only a few of the add-ons that will benefit you. Browse the add-ons recommended by others and have many downloads.

For more information on how to use Firefox go to Mozilla.com and read their blog.

if you only compare the IE new tab experience with the one from New Tab King for Firefox you’d be convinced.
