They score with offline applications but they cannot repeat their success with online applications. Read some facts about Microsoft.

Microsoft is probably the most important company in the information technology market. They invented and built Windows, the most used operating system in the world, plus they had the most important hand in the development of the internet and it’s expansion with Internet Explorer. But times change, and so does Microsoft need to change… but this is not what is happening. If you take a look at Microsoft website, you cannot even download a simple file such as Media Player without great effort. Even their search engine is not able to retrieve that file in the first page results, nor in the second page… They still rule the operating system world… but when it comes to the online world, they should lead, but they sink hard. If you try to visit the official Office page, you need to have Internet Explorer with you, the same is true for Windows Update.

I installed one year ago the new Internet Explorer 8 Beta. I could not remove it and it had a major bug that stopped my computer and even crashed it. I contacted Microsoft and they said to “do this and that” and so I did, but they gave me the wrong instructions. I contacted them again, same story (dumb woman) and I had to have that Beta until a better version came around one year later. Hotmail is another very important service that is becoming better, but you cannot have encryption yet and the layout could be a little better not to mention the speed of the messages. Finally Microsoft does not have any serious online application. I believe they think their business model will last forever, they are insisting in making a better and faster MP3 file and people already scream for MP4. Let’s just hope they won’t wake up too late.
