Browsers

Mix together the Internet and video games and you have an instant hit. Well, guess what? It’s time to name that instant hit. And its name is FireNES.

Old school Nintendo games are enjoyed by millions of people around the world. And thanks to the latest Firefox plugin called FireNES, you can now play many of these Nintendo games for free. All you need is an Internet connection, and to be a registered member of Firefox.

What is Firefox?

Firefox is simply an Internet browser similar to Internet Explorer. It is the preferred browser of millions of people, and it offers many unique features that Internet Explorer doesn’t have. Some of these features include an ad blocking program, various types of plugins, and much more. And now they offer a plugin that allows you to play free Nintendo games too.

Registration Process

Registering as a Firefox/Mozilla user is easy, and very little personal information is necessary. The form you fill out will require your email address, a password, your first and last name, a nickname, and your website. These last two are optional. Once you fill in the form, you will be instructed to check your email. Click the link that is in the email you receive, and your registration will be completed.

Types of Games Offered

There are many types of games offered with this plugin. In fact, there are well over two thousand games that you can choose from. You have three different types of categories to choose from. These categories are called the “All” category, the “TopList” category, and a “Favorites” category. It’s fairly self explanatory. As for the types of games that are offered you can play Zelda, Mario Brothers, Pacman, Final Fantasy, and many others. Remember, these are all old school games. You will not find the latest and greatest games from this plugin.

Requirements

All you need to access these free games is an Internet connection, a computer, the Firefox browser, and you need to register as a Firefox/Mozilla member (this is free). In order to play these games, you will need to have Java enabled. So make sure that it’s working properly; otherwise, the games will not run on your computer.

Problems

The main problem with the FireNes plugin is the fact that the controls are very strange. Sometimes it’s almost impossible to figure out what keys you’re supposed to press in order to make the game work. However, this will probably be corrected sometime in the future. In the meantime, Firefox users will simply have to put up with the shortcomings of this plugin. There also doesn’t appear to be a full screen ability to play these games with. Instead you’re stuck with a smaller sized screen. But this may change in the future as well.

Old Nintendo games are something that many people have fond memories of. And thanks to this new Firefox plugin, you can now play these games completely free.

It varies from game to game. Sometimes it’s enter, and sometimes it’s something like xyz. And sometimes, I just give up because I can’t figure it out.
