Browsers

First in a series of Computer apps.

After you wipe a hard drive or install a fresh operating system the first thing you should do is look for the Applications that are needed to make your computer great. You already have basic applications, but those are practically useless when you have a much better library to choose from. Well this will be a series of articles that compares some of the most common things that people use everyday.

Browsers

  1. Firefox- one of the best browsers out there. Firefox provides great speed as well as great add-ons to boost productivity. It is based on the Geeko Layout Engine. Compared to other browsers it has the most features and useful add-ons. Greasemonkey, ad block plus, and many other add-ons give the browser many more options to how they want to use their browser. It is also Open source which lets anyone improve upon the code not just the big companies and the people in their.
  2. Safari- started on the Mac and is now available on the pc as well. Safari is based on web kit. Safari is good if you like the interface, but its features are very similar to Google Chrome. Safari does not currently support many add-ons which is very disappointing. This limits its ability to give customers the functionality that other browsers have. Safari has private browsing, tab switching and looks over Firefox. However compared to Chrome those cancel out. This is a decent browser however there are better options out their. Safari also has a new nitro JavaScript engine which apple claims to be faster and more reliable compared to Firefox and Internet Explorer.
  3. Google Chrome- This browser is created by the big company also known as the search engine, Google. Their browser has a few unique features that set it apart from the rest. Its memory usages are separated into many categories. This is useful when a page crash and it freezes the app. In most cases you would have to exit the browser and then re-enter into your app. However Google Chrome allows you to end the task of a page or an add-on. Google has 9 blocks allocated on your main screen so you can put your favorite sites there. This is extremely useful if you want go to something everyday because then it will always show up. Chrome also has Tab moving as well as Private Browsing. Private browsing is useful at work or when you don’t want people snooping around your stuff and looking at what you are doing. This is a very good Browser and is comparable to Firefox.
  4. Internet Explorer- This browser is backed by Microsoft. This browser is the one that comes with your Windows XP/Vista and it sucks. I hate Internet Explorer. It uses more memory which bogs down your system. Internet Explorer always loads slower then other browsers. It looks horrible and I just hate it when someone uses it because all browsers are pretty much better then it. Well at least IE8 is better. So if you use Internet Explorer at least use IE8 if not well you won’t have good security and have less features overall.
  5. Opera- is a nice looking browser however the features that others have are not included unless you install add-ons. These add-ons use up more system memory and makes it slower than other browsers. Opera has a lot of built in utilities that make it worth using. Built in RSS reader, email client, and torrent client.
