The Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living

Blogging

Some of the more popular posts on my blog.

Since I started blogging a little over five years ago I’ve blogged about all kinds of topics and subjects from the birth of Jeremy Aaron and my life in Asia to waxing nostalgic about growing up in the 1960s/1970s and serving in the United States Air Force.

With over 1300 posts, I have some personal favorites, some of which are also popular with readers:

If a picture is worth a thousand words

It’s a proud Papa Sparks post. I just love this photo taken of Jeremy Aaron and I just a little over a week after he had been born. It was a bit of a journey for me to travel from South Korea to Laos-flying into Vientiane and then having to take a ten-hour bus ride to Paksong to be with Aon, Jeremy Aaron and Bia. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this one has to be good for at least a couple hundred thousand and then some.

From Carbondale to Daejeon

When I first wrote this essay I was only writing about how cool it was to get an email from David Siegfried, former lead singer of that happening 1980’s Carbondale band, David and the Happenings. I had written about David’s band in another post about their gig at the Space Place in Chicago.

The next thing I know all these people who had gone to Southern Illinois University and knew David and his band started leaving comments on the post. It became the catalyst for an SIU reunion at the Smart Bar in Chicago this past March-another one is planned for next March.

Have a little fun with this one. Do a Google search for David and the Happenings and see which entry is number one.

Are you a Stooge?

My first night of Air Force basic training. A classic.

It all Started with Archie Comics

That’s right, it did-my writing career that is. Back in 1969, I sent a letter to Archie Comics and it won first prize and a 5.00 check from the Chase Manhattan Bank. One of my best friends from LaSalle, Illinois Bob Patelli found this copy of the comic on eBay and sent it to me two years for a Christmas present.

Family Classics with Frazier Thomas

I am surprised with the number of hits this post gets-so many people really miss this popular Sunday show on WGN TV, Channel 9 from Chicago. What’s even more surprising (you have to read the comments) is how many people loved the theme music. There’s a special surprise in the comments.

Brotherly Love

This is just a feel-good post about Jeremy Aaron and Bia. The hits are piling up.

Crossing the Isthmus of Panama with Howard and other stories – Part 3

Another popular Air Force/military post.

Luang Prabang – Shangrila in the Mekong Valley

Yes, it is. One of the more beautiful and charming places I have visited and one of my top ten posts on my blog

Buckacre – Country Rock from America’s Heartland

They only recorded two albums, but they are still fondly remembered back in the Illinois Valley.

The Honeymooners – TV comedy at its zenith

Enough said.
