Choosing a layout is just as important as any of the other steps I have gone through. Were you aware that if you choose the wrong layout for your Blog, it can cost you big time?

First I must apologize for not being able to get back here sooner. Somehow life overcame me and I got stuck in a whole pile of things happening with our family. Including a brand new granddaughter. That makes the 3 rd grandchild for us, with another due in November.

But, enough of that back to the real reason we are here, the Step by Step Tutorial on How to Blog , or Learning how to Blog , or Tutorial on Blogging .

The layout controls the placement of your main column and placement and number of sidebars you have.

People surf through blogs like they are surfing Traffic Exchanges. If the Title, tagline and layout are not appealing, I can promise you they won’t stay long.

What does a good blog layout require?

Let me see now, I would say the first thing to consider would be to have it uncluttered . Certainly, everyone wants or should make use of their sidebars.

Color is next obvious choice one needs to think about. I hate going to blogs where the color is so hard on my eyes that I can’t read it. Or the print is so small I can’t read the darn thing.

Some colors are complimentary, while others are not.

A blog layout that uses a lot of loud colors can hurt the eyes of your viewers causing them to click away. Use the bold colors to highlight certain areas of your blog that you find important.

Space . Yes every blog needs space . I guess this relates to the small print as well. You should be using fonts that are large enough to read clearly and that the lines of text have enough space between them that each line is easy to read. Smashed together text is a complete turn off to potential visitors.

Space applies to the sidebars as well. In your sidebar, make sure that not only are your lists properly spaced, but that there is space between the lists themselves.

For the last little bit of advice, make sure you view the layout you have chosen to see if it appeals to you. View all the items listed above.

Most of all enjoy what you are doing and have fun.

Tune in shortly for the next step. I promise not to dilly dally for the next steps.
